>> No.10807842

Just found a couple interesting ones lads:

TIVO - like I know not everyone wants to use a box really anymore, it just seems like its got a nice ceiling and good trend, if it wants to return to its historical mean, you make a buck a share plus the dividend is pretty sick at a 0.18 to 12.88sp ratio its more than 1%

GCI - a bit garbage but it doesn't look like it will crash on you? insane dividend of 0.16 for a 10.53 stock, might go down more but eventually people will wake up to it so be aware 1.5% div

and AMC - They had FUD from Amazon but they are back in the swing of things. This is my most legitimate trade idea today.

AMC honestly reminds me of a slower moving AMD. They have a incredible movie card program people are subscribing too, eventually adding a huge revenue stream potentially, like HMNY but on solid financial footing. Basically if AMC fucks this up, this business strategy is literally impossible to achieve. They will be miles ahead of Amazon. You also get a 20 cent dividend which is honestly beautiful considering this stock has another 10% gain in it, can see 20.90 by ex-div.

Dude that's the thing I find nuts about hearing about the fact the average woman's closet is worth 5-10k in clothes by itself. I mean the average person regardless of gender is pretty fucking broke so that is absolutely nuts to me how far women are willing to go to satisfy their materialism. womens closets are probably the most expensive part of the house (deffinently if she keeps her jewlery in the closet too)

friendly life tip: if a women sleeps with you and she has matching bra and panties, know that she was going to get laid that night, no matter who she had to get with

also womens bedrooms are usually messier, since clothes and outfits thrown around everywhere

It's useless jargon Buy to open applies to stocks as well. When an investor decides to establish a new position in a particular stock, the first buy transaction is considered buy to open because it opens the position. By opening the position, the stock is being established as a holding in the portfolio. The position remains open until it is closed out by selling all the stocks. This is known as selling to close because it closes the positionraders "sell to close" call options contracts they own when they no longer want to hold a long bullish position on the underlying asset. They "sell to close" put options contracts they own when they no longer want to hold a long bearish position on the underlying asset.

New shitty trader here and I was wondering what your guys take is on this conventional trader wisdom:
>Good trades should start working pretty much immediately
The implication is that if the trade isn't working "pretty much immediately," you should take it off and re-evaluate. The other side of that coin is:
>Give your trades room to breathe
So my question is at the start of a trade, in general, how do you guys like to operate? Do you have a low pain threshold and jump out fast and maybe re-enter or do you take some pain and see if it works out?

I get this impression that your stop loss and profit target work reflexively. In other words how much profit you want to make on average per trade determines how much you can let your positions run against you on average, but if your nearest sensible stop is 10 ticks away, then your profit target is now a function of the location of the stop you believe that the market has signaled to you. So assuming a goal of 3:1 risk-reward if you're scalping you'll make many trades and risk like 3 ticks to try to get 9. If you're swing trading you'll make less trades than the scalper and might risk 50 ticks to get 150 ticks. If you're position trading, you'll make less trades than the position trader and subsequently risk more to try to get more. Is this an accurate overview?

My general rule of thumb is something like this. If short postion cut point is a loss of 2%. If long cut point moves depending on factors but usually around 5-7% but I have ignored these before see my still holding LB. Then you have exit points, for highly volital stocks I sell after they drop more than 3% of profit high. For low volitility I sell when they drop more than 1.5% from profit high. This rule of thumb doesn't hold to my stocks I plan to keep forever for divs. Div stocks I cut only when the div is cut or it looks like the company is going under. Stupid gamble holdings I already have preplanned loss and exit points dependant on the stupid gamble.

Also 10 ticks 50 ticks, to much TA.

>The implication is that if the trade isn't working "pretty much immediately," you should take it off and re-evaluate. The other side of that coin is:
>Give your trades room to breathe

This is strategy dependent. Being a swing trader, my usual rule is to hold until I get stopped out and my read on the chart is proven invalid. So long as stop loss is not triggered and chart is still showing the same signs I identified for bullish potential, I hold. This could be anywhere from a couple days to a few months, depending.

A day trader usually does not want to hold position overnight unless conditions look very good for rising continuation.

Long hodl is more about company potential. You enter with partial cash in good enough position with an eye to cost averaging over time until the trade hits your profit target. This includes bag holding for extended periods of time, usually, with you cost averaging on the lows to decrease your average cost per share.

My stops are placed based on TA. It depends on the pattern and, in certain circumstances, I may opt not to use a stop loss and instead average down, depending. For an ordinary stop loss on a break out, I'll put my stop at the bottom of a bull flag. Not at the bottom of the pole, mind you, bottom of the flag consolidation range. That usually equates to 2-3%. The idea being that if the bull flag fails I want to be out as my read on the chart proved incorrect.

Gotcha thanks. I'm going to re-read this a few times to make sure I get it. The main idea seems to be that you give shorts less room to breathe which makes sense, longs get a little more variability because of different factors/assumptions you're making about the company/stock. Then, your profit targets are a function of the volatility of the stock in question with higher vol getting a little more breathing room and lower vol getting less. All done in percentages, not ticks.
>>10808783
Thanks. So in one aspect it's a function of your emotional/psychological temperament even going so far as using your emotions as a trigger to exit (pain threshold idea). Some people can hold longer, some people can't. You make an assumption about what price "should" do and if it doesn't do what you expect, you close out. That actually makes sense as well.
>>10808812
Thanks. So your stops are pretty much law. You set it and then adhere to it. Your descriptions of the time horizons also make sense.

Really interesting viewpoints guys, I genuinely appreciate it.

Yep, that's correct. There's no emotional waffling about it. I decide where to put stops before I enter any trade to begin with. However, if I'm riding a breakout and am unsure exactly when the steam will run out, I may use a trailing stop loss of 3-5%. That kind of strategy is reserved for when I'm already well in the money on a trade.

If Ford does cut their dividend, their stock will fall more. In that case, they are possibly a turnaround buy in the very long term.

tho im sure /v/ bullying the christ out of him didnt help. if only they couldve known the monster theyd end up creating
