Your degree doesn't really have anything to do with your future career, unless you are studying something highly specialized with a view towards a specific kind of job. It's really just the new hogh school diploma, in terms of entering the job market. At least in the humanities, you don't really get a lot of specialized education until grad school anyway.

Your history degree is very valuable to our software company. When can you start?

I know three other guys with history degrees. One is a financial analyst, the other is a mortgage banker and the other is in medical supply sales. Basically, unless your studying something that gives you a specific skill: Engineering, Accounting, etc. it all comes down to networking and charisma.

It’s not my personal choice. Just a curiosity. A couple people I work with in Sales say I’d be good at it and my girlfriend said that as well

So, the people in sales want you to change departments: you suck at sales
Your girlfriend sees you as a woman, because that's generally who works in HR.
And here you are, thinking they were complimenting you, lol.

Should just get an Econ from a top 10 college and study labor & compensation. Take some business courses. Then you can do an MBA later on and get paid six figures for literally doing nothing.

If you cant land a good job in HR, you can try your luck on Wall Street.

i am doing a master in finance and accounting but i visited a human resource module as studium generale, so i can tell you a bit about that.

first of all. it is fucking easy. i did an A+ in this module.
you are talking about how to motivate employees via your payment system and non monetary incentives. how to organize work, how to select the best workers and all this shit to manage your human resources.

the people there were fucking stupid.
there were at least 300 people in this module and while talking about payment systems, one guy unironically requested to say something, and then he told the whole audience in a proud voice, that he landed a job after he finished his master and he will earn 24k euro per year.
i chuckled inside, because you make 60k as a start with my finance degree and an A average.

also we worked on a lot of emperical studies to make the point clear that the professor wanted to teach us.

the people there were to stupid to understand a simple linear regression and read the effect of x on y out of the regression.
