im merely a servant to the VIX

the permabears are retarded

EMs are still in a sticky situation, but the only reason we were affected yesterday was because of a mad rush to buy USD. the dollar ended negative on the day yesterday tho, and since that was the only problem, were back where we were on tuesdays close

if you wanna short something look at EEM, or specific country ETFs. they will continue to struggle if our dollar stays this strong
another good short is pretty much any metals, just wait for your entry desu. never FOMO into short positions

as for long VIX, you kinda missed it imo
there will be another one, but likely not as big. the tides moving out now. another wave will come, but for a VIX spike like the last few days, we need volume, and there isnt any cuz everyones on vacation

Put half of it into SPY, half into div stocks. One anon shared this pic and it's a pretty good allotment of div stocks. Your goal for retirement is to have a nest egg of spy that you don't touch for years and a stable of dividends you could live off of. This will require a fair amount of capital. So you would probably sell the spy near retirement and go all in on an expanded div portfolio. Don't just stick to these stocks for divs. Diversification is good and you don't want to buy anything that is going to go bellyup.

yea, cuz FED crushed yield.
now theyre raising rates, and since we can handle it, they plan on raising rates more.
long bond yields will get a huge (relative) boost. so will most fixed income. look at whats happened to bond yields in the past few years. were only at 2% rn. FED is at least raising it 2 more times, and in my opinion, the yields have some catching up to do. i think at some point well get a yield blow out, and that will be a time to buy a bunch of bonds on credit and just pay interest with it so you have an infinite credit farming glitch

Ok slow your roll. This isn't even the worst I've seen. You need to figure out your time frame. Are we talking 5 years or 40 years from now. No matter what your first step is eliminate credit card debt. A lot of people preach the snowball method, attack the smallest amount first. Math wise this is dumb, psychology wise it's smart. Mathwise you should attack the biggest balence/highest apr. Once you've gotten rid of your credit card debt then you look at your next big one. Probably car of you don't own a house. Student loans if you have them should be consolidated and typically switched to income based. All the while you should be trying to sock a little away into a Roth IRA. Then once you are either debit free or low debt then you can go gangbusters on saving for retirement. And yes you should be investing monthly but reducing debt obligations helps increase amount you can invest.

When I was in my very early 20s I spoke to an accountant about opening an IRA. he asked me when I wanted to retire and I threw out 55. He just laughed.
I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’ll be working a very long time and that I’ll have to change my lifestyle when I retire but that’s ok desu. I could easily live the rest of my days shitposting and playing vidya.
In the end though you never know what’s going to happen in your life. You could lose your retirement at any point for any of a number of reasons. Nothing is guaranteed and 30+ years (in my case) is a long time for things to change.

If you want to be a pedantic stupid fuck than no technically it is negative sum considering fees and commission.

To save pedantic fuckery we just say it's a zero sum game.

We have a term for this, it's called zero-sum thinking. The idea that something must be a zero-sum game. The problem with the stock market is that there are too many players and too many "rules" so we can't know if it's zero sum or not. Conversely there's a lot of proof that things become non zero-sum as complexity increases. The cavet is that zero sum has it's good sides. Zero sum dictates max loss. In the market you can in theory have infinite gain or infinite loss across multiple players.

a single player can have infinite loss (if he shorts a stock that goes up to infinity) but that means another player has infinite gain (the player than owns the stock)

there must be at least as many holders as shorters, therefore maximum loss is to capped at the total invested but maximum gain is infinite (as long as at least one share remains unshorted)

If you buy periodically, regardless of market conditions, you take out the timing component. If you try to time the market, you're not investing anymore. In the past 12 months alone I've bought very close to both a bottom and a top.

Until they default at which point their loss becomes loss for the other player too.

in a world where there are exactly two people, one is long and one is short, the total returns between those people is zero. if one is short and two is long (more typical senario) there can be net gains and losses. if an asteroid crashes and destroys the company, the longs lose everything and the short doubles up, a net loss between all investors.

anyone who things the stock market is zero sum: imagine an asteroid destroying all economic output, the result is total loss, clearly not a zero sum senario.
