Completely unrelated to this thread, but I just happened to have it open. I was looking at IDEXX (IDXX) and saw on their 10-Q that they are $40.849MM in the hole in stockholders' deficit yet they did $189.844MM in buybacks in the first 6 months.

I understand leveraged buybacks, but why the hell would this be a good idea when you're not even worth no money? Even more important, why are shareholders okay with this? ive been calling for a multi year oil bullrun all year desu. my main thesis has been a factor of watching the actions in the middle east/north africa and also seeing how seemingly desperate KSA and other OPEC countries have gotten (ESPECIALLY the talk of the possible ARAMCO IPO, saudis selling off the golden goose). i believe the last artificial crash in 2014 hurt OPEC a LOT more than they expected (combined w costly wars w houthis), and they are now in a position where they need oil up.
very interesting to hear you say something about an overall scarcity of the entire resource itself. id assume the better play (rather than just being long oil itself) would be to go super longterm on oil and gas exploration (XOP) and perhaps oil/gas equipment (XES)?

I mean more in general terms t-7 years turnover from exploration discovery to pumping and beyond for profitability. No companies kept restockimg the portfolio during the downturn. Unless something happens immediately companies will have to start drilling their resource plays (and everyone will discover they were lies) which seems an opportunity for a short but over arcing there are not even prospects in companies inventories. The majors will have to start relinquishing all their 2012 contracts soon leaving room for the mids to move again but the majors will have to start spending and drilling their prime acreage and 11 wells ainst gonna cut it at 10% success rate. There are other factors and a few specifics i cant mention but i will say i tried to get my old company into guyana and it would have been a company maker.
