3 days ago we find out that:
>Intercontinental Exchange (NYSE:ICE), a leading operator of global exchanges, clearing houses, data and listings services, announced today that it plans to form a new company, Bakkt, which intends to leverage Microsoft cloud solutions to create an open and regulated, global ecosystem for digital assets. The new company is working with a marquee group of organizations including BCG, Microsoft, Starbucks, and others, to create an integrated platform that enables consumers and institutions to buy, sell, store and spend digital assets on a seamless global network.

One of the major obstacles to adoption by major retailers is volatility. If you buy or sell things in Bitcoin or Ethereum, the price can fluctuate dramatically and wipe out potential revenue. You can't have that if you run a business. You need consistency to balance the accounting books properly from quarter to quarter for budgeting and managing expenses. Very difficult to plan when you don't know if the currency you just accepted will hold its value from day to day. So how do you solve this problem?
>Instantaneous conversion from crypto -> fiat at Point of Sale.
If I sell a coffee for $5 and accept payment in a near instantaneous resolving crypto transaction, and then immediately swap it out for fiat (handled by a smartcontract of course), then the risk of volatile budgeting involving crypto is no longer an obstacle to adoption and major retailers can move forward and accept payments in crypto. And so far we only know of one project that seeks to connect payment, retailer, and banking systems with the blockchain in a trust-less manner end-to-end.

>“Bakkt is designed to serve as a scalable on-ramp for institutional, merchant and consumer participation in digital assets by promoting greater efficiency, security and utility,” said Kelly Loeffler, CEO of Bakkt. “We are collaborating to build an open platform that helps unlock the transformative potential of digital assets across global markets and commerce.”

>ICE also owns and operates 6 central clearing houses: ICE Clear Europe, ICE Clear U.S., ICE Clear Canada, ICE Clear Singapore, ICE Clear Netherlands, ICE Clear Credit and The Clearing Corporation.[2][3] ICE has offices in New York, London, Chicago, Houston, Winnipeg, Amsterdam, Calgary, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Tel Aviv and Singapore.

If you "read between the lines" you'll see they're describing the chainlink network but can't mention it due to NDAs or other arrangements such as keeping hype low until the mainnet launches (hence no mention of LINK). "Reading between the lines" means you understand what they're talking about (chainlink network) without them actually having to mention it because of legal agreements and routine business operations for protecting IP. Chainlink is a network. A very powerful network. So powerful in fact it can automate entire overhead business processes and entire divisions can be eliminated. Companies will want to pay for access to that network just to COMPETE.

That's not how it works. New wealth is created as the valuation of the token and network rises. An additional trillion dollar data market can be created from "thin air" because it doesn't currently exist and will only come into existence with the launch of the chainlink mainnet. The valuation of a token or stock is just the last price paid x Market Cap. If Link is $2500, and someone then pays $2,600, that is the current value of the token that offers access to the network for data. No one had to "transfer" wealth from an existing company to increase the value of Link, especially since new wealth is being created everyday.

FAcebook, Amazon, Netflix, and Google. He's implying that the value of these companies must somehow transfer into chainlink but that's not how wealth and market valuations work. The chainlink network could actually make these companies more valuable as chainlink provides a platform for them to deliver cheaper automated services to their customers. This would increase the value of both FANG and LINK because they're using each other to deliver goods and services more cheaply, and there's a lot of value in doing so.

I'm actually more qualified to talk about this than most anons.I'm employed with a cyber-techno machinations company, I do a lot of security analyst programming type work. Open source, decentralized, APIs, partnerships, you name it. We'd be one of the first companies in line for something like Chainlink, if the decentralized smart contract space had more value over traditional data exchanges. There's a catch though, an underlying flaw more deeply embedded in the bedrock of LINK than the very code itself. The flaw is with the concept, and it's this: Companies won't actually go through the hassle of trusting their data API's through crypto.

Now I can already hear your keyboards going frantic, but hear me out. /biz/ hates banks, and traditional data providers. But actual companies, businesses, and investors do not. There's an old saying you might have heard of: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!". The idea that any of our bosses would give us the go ahead if we approached them to put our companies valuable data in a smart contract on a cryptocurrency called Chainlink, that they've never heard of, we'd be laughed out at best and fired on the spot at worst. We already have API data buyers and providers we trust.

'But Chainlink is trustless!' I hear you cry, but is that really a good thing? Just listen to the sound of it. Businesses don't want to spend millions of dollars on something that is trustLESS, they want something trustFUL. 'But the reputation system!', doesn't that defeat the whole point of your coin? If companies only trust nodes with high reputation, what's the difference between trusting banks and data providers that already have reputation, but in real life not on a computer screen.

The fact is, LINK is going to share the same fate as ETH will. A lot of 'real world application' hype, with a lot of 'crypto world application' reality. Only, this billion supply coin isn't going to come close to the $1k that Etherum hit. Happy gambling though anons.

Yup. Ethereum is used only to track the tokens, in the end it'll simultaneously support every chain and operate in the middle and separate from them all. Sure, I understand. Think of it like this: “A rising tide lifts all boats.” The pie isn’t finite. New wealth is created with the passage of time as people create new things and build upon existing structures; they become more VALUABLE because their longevity is a function of their utility. Netflix is valuable because it can provide an efficient service after perfecting business processes for 10 years and learning from mistakes and spending time and money to get good at it (and there’s no destruction like wars. The broken window fallacy can illustrate this but that’s for another time).

So let’s say I spend $100 on LINK and the price rises $.05 because that was the cheapest price. The VALUE of link increased because the perceived value is greater with more people buying than selling (yes there’s always a buyer and seller, but if more people want to buy a product than is being offered the price climbs due to scarcity). Now after I buy there’s the same amount of buyers and sellers and the price remains constant for another two weeks. After those two weeks when I get paid again from my employer with the new wealth I created by working for them, I then invest another $100 in Link. Let’s say that because there are very few sellers the next lowest price is $.10 higher. We got a different price rise but invested the same amount of money, because the price (VALUE) of link is tied to the supply and demand curve which is tied to its real or perceived value. So an additional $.05 of wealth was created out of thin air because the perceived value of Link drove demand up while supply remained constant. An increase in demand with a constant supply will move the price up. With link however, supply will also decrease concurrently with an increase in demand as link gets tied up in nodes, thus bringing about the exponential rise in the price during the singularity.

And this is how the Jewish banking cabal robs Americans of their wealth: They just use the federal reserve to print more dollar bills thus increasing the supply while the demand remains relatively constant in the short term so this drives the value of the dollar back down to 1. It's called quantitative easing and it steals your wealth because its a method by which to reintroduce a greater supply of dollars thus driving down the value because there is more supply than demand.

>The Fed’s action of printing fiat money into the economy is the main reason why the US dollar has lost more than 95 percent of its value since the Fed was created in 1913. On a serious note, if / when Chainlink succeeds, we are going to see something truly incomprehensible. First with Bitcoin, it's primary purpose was to transfer money. People did this, online transactions (darkweb, p2p trades..etc) This is when bitcoin was below 200$. After this moment bitcoin spiked, I've heard two rumors, the most common being the Greeks tying up their money as a safety net and another of a secret meeting where a bunch of billionaires got together and invested. Both seem plausible, both are a store of value. Neither creating a tangible wealth. Ethereum came after and introduced the biggest speculation market we have seen, this time accessibility into the markets / liquidity brought in a bunch of users with dumb money.
Now presumably, when Chainlink hits there's going to be a few factors that didn't affect bitcoin or ethereum. One is going to be regulation, if chainlink is the "super tech" that multiple companies agree on using you can bet your ass that this will be regulated in some way. Regulation causes, smart money / institutional money to move into the space. The second factor of a huge price increase, will be dead money shifting to a working product. We currently have over 200b in the total marketcap, with NO working implementation into our society. Expect some of this money to pour in. A third factor is the barrier to even profit off these companies. Microsoft saves 10% with crypto adoption. Ok so what? You have to be a stock holder to profit, but also who cares when multiple companies will be showing similar growth. How do you invest in a blockchain where you can't buy Hyperledger Coins or Corda Coins or various cloud supported tools. Chainlink and maybe ethereum is the only way to ride the waves the companies are making.
Also since chainlink has a set cap, it will be interesting to see a utility token have a value as both supply diminishes and scarcity results of an actual use of the token.
