Alright, so here is the options profit/loss for those you who went on the straddle life on SNAP with me, based on my entry (12.5 8/17): http://opcalc.com/goEQ

The bounds are a move of 50%, which would be a repeat of earnings beat 2/6/2018. The most likely move is 30%, 16.70 & 8.99. An upwards move of only 14% will result in a breakeven; likewise, a downwards move of 24% will result in breakeven. These breakeven values are for ON EXPIRATION. Move should be complete by the 15th at latest, based on previous movement on earnings. Based on current market price (Close today should be used for calculations going into earnings).

Again, you're betting on the underlying moving A LOT. In the case of SNAP is needs to move in excess of 14% up or 24% down. SNAP averages 30% on ER. More risk is applied due to Implied Volatility increasing (IV Crush). The "trick" is to get in a trade that is undervalued by the market. This becomes increasingly difficult as earnings approach.

It's time for the Lunchtime Checkup!

What're you eating how're you doing?

I'm in boomer jail so I brown bagged a smoked ham and garlic cheddar cheese sandwich on WEAT with bistro sauce. I'm down only like .15% so eh. Might go to the driving range after work. Kinda still fucked up today, tried a four loko on the weekend and it got me.

dont listen to those other tards.
VIX is low because there are VERY few people trading today. less buying and selling leads to lower VIX.

now as to the reason there are so few people trading today? idk. perhaps they are waiting on a retaliation from china. perhaps they are waiting on the iranian sanctions being announced in an hour. or perhaps we are overbought in the near term.

but you are correct, this is quite a downward move on VIX considering nothing is really pumping

The guidance is still 70/30 stock and bond, tweak either figure to accomodate 5-10% cash according to your risk appetite.
In hindsight it seems like 08 happened quickly when really there were months of weakness before rapid declines started around september. So generally stay heavily long the market while the market is still good and start deconstructing a bit only when the economy is clearly recessing to build up cash. As the saying goes, you take the first and last 20% I’ll take the 60 in the middle.
>>10577429
This is pretty common. You don’t need to invest everything you have but if you have that cash in brokerage already you are very underexposed right now and leaving money on the table.
