The only reason Alts exist is because Bitcoin stopped trying to scale. Once it became clear that Bitcoin couldn't handle many transactions, and that it was no longer trying to innovate, devs started to make their own coins.

Ethereum was originally going to be built on the Bitcoin blockchain.

Anyways, now that Bitcoin has decided to start scaling again, and now that it is going after advanced features such as smart contracts and all the rest again in the form of Bitcoin Cash, alts no longer have a competitive advantage in this market. I'm sure that they will continue to go down.
