Java gets a lot of shit because the owners (Oracle). The language isn't inherently worse than other object oriented languages, it just has its differences.

As for Oracle being shitty, it's the same way practically everything else in the world is. They've ruined their relationships with consumers through poor management and handling of projects in the past; and they get a lot of criticism and skepticism as to how they are handling java because of this.
