Listen I'm not trying to knock the difficulty of a doctorate. But in all honesty, the hardest thing I saw about medical school was managing debt. If you can complete school and function in life with 250,000 in debt - you can become a doctor.

Yes there is a whole lot of subjectivity with schools, residencies and applications. I feel that's the same in any industry, just scaled due to higher wages in medicine.

Nice. I'm wondering whether I should try working for a business in the industry. That's my plan b. Plan a is that I make a lot more money off of BTC and then use some profit to go in on a deal with my buddy who is familiar with the business.

Also, I am hoping that the market crashes soon, that would be so sweet.

Well it might have been the hardest thing out of all things in med school, if you're smart. I'm 123 IQ, tops. I don't know what I'm truly capable of because my life problems hinder everything, but I have very specific skills in music. Math went over my head fast in school, but I think it's mostly because of my friend group who didn't appreciate school. Now it's hard to begin learning math, but I know I'm capable if I was to study every day.

I don't know what I'm talking about lol I don't normally get to talk to people smarter than me.

Yea I will really try, thank you. Not worth it to fuck up my health for money that I don't even need. I don't have a gambling mindset at all; I only play in games where I have an edge and I never tilt or chase losses. That being said, poker can still be really stressful and the short term variance can be brutal. It's very similar to being a day trader.

Years of practicing/ studying and some of it is talent. You have to be very good at pattern recognition, logical reasoning and (to a lesser extent) math to make it to the top. Nowadays online poker is extremely competitive and it's by no means easy money. Most people who try to go pro fail (much like in day trading) and most pros can't make it past mid stakes. Just beating low stakes takes a lot of effort and talent.

It's getting harder and harder every year to make a lot of money because of AI/solvers, advanced software, cheap cloud computing etc. (I don't use these tools much myself though) which is why I'm studying finance on the side. I will probably quit poker in 1-3 years.

Orthopedic Surgeon here

Most doctors aren’t geniuses. Mostly its hard work and using common sense, the body is pretty much just a complex system of plumbing with a hemodynamic element. For the most part, once you get how systems are interconnected to each other and can reason/think through the pathway, its fairly easy. Just takes memorizing, hard work, and practice. However you get some geniuses but they end up being complete autists and go into IM or research because real world applications and clinical/textbook tend not to match, thus common sense/reasoning is needed.

Also, once you do well on your licensing tests its just a matter of mastering your given specialty. Its kind of like cooking or carpentry where you just gotta practice over and over till it becomes second nature

Look at the amount of games I've played during past 12 months. I have an edge against just about everyone I play against and I only play heads up. It's like flipping a coin with 52.5% probability of heads 17500 times. Idk how much you know about statistics, but over a huge sample like that you will always win very consistently (if you're interested you can use this calc to simulate the variance: http://www.pokerdope.com/tournament-variance-calculator/).).

Live games are almost always a lot softer than online because there's less competition. There's not a huge difference between online and live at high stakes as most people are very good at not giving away any tells. I rarely play live because you get dealt a lot less hands, high stakes rarely run at my local casino ad it's a lot more convenient/comfy to play from home. Live you play <30 hands/hour while online you can play >60 hands/hour and multiple tables at the same time. Some tournament players and cash game players play 15 tables or more online, i.e. 30x more hands that they could play live = a lot less variance and most likely higher hourly unless the live games are a lot higher stakes.

Absolutely, though the details depend on whether you're going to do it for fun or professionally.

You can get your private pilot license (this should be your first step) within a few months and only 35 or 40 (depending on where you get your training) hours of flight time. This will cost about $8k.

After that, you should aim for your commercial license, your instrument rating (40 hrs and can be done in a simulator), and your airline transport pilot license (requires 1500 hours, so you do the math).

The most difficult part will be getting the 1500 hours for an ATP license, but you're in your 20s so at least you aren't too old. However, you'll also need several thousand hours on the plane your plan to fly, before someone like Delta give you the title of captain and lets you take command. There are only a handful of players who are as good as me at the games I play and I know all of them. It takes a ton of studying/playing to get really good so if someone new shows up I will literally always have an edge against them (even if they're big winners at other poker formats). It's like being a top 20 chess grandmaster; if an unknown sits down in front of you you'll always have an edge even if they're really good at chess/poker by normal standards. Also, most high stakes players play somewhat similar strategies in common spots, e.g. if it's considered optimal by most pros to bet 25-33% of the pot on an AA6 flop on the button after a single raise preflop and someone suddenly bets 75% then they're almost guaranteed to be a fish (by high stakes standards). I almost always notice "mistakes" (and try to exploit them as much as possible) after a few hands.

Ok my friends please provide me some guidance.

I am 29 years old, currently working as a seasonal worker at a resort in the summer and as a freelance writer in the winter. I got a bit lucky with crypto but nothing life changing. Cashed out around 50k with a 1k investment.

I’m reaching 30 and realizing that this lifestyle won’t be sustainable for much longer. Being older at seasonal jobs starts to be a bit pathetic when the other workers are college students or doing important shit in their lives.

I’ve been a trucker, a forester, a logistics coordinator and numerous other jobs. I don’t know what to do with my life. I’m very good at writing and can command a good rate but working on Upwork drains my soul and I hate how much they take in commissions.

I applied to university this year but didn’t get in. Not interested in going to community college and I feel like I’m too old for trade school. I considered joining the military but I’ve heard horror stories about being the old guy that enlisted.

I wasted my 20s pretending to be a musician and traveling the world. It was fun but got me nowhere. Now I’m looking at a big dark future. I need to figure out a path in life.

Any guidance?

Gimme the rundown on this, how much can you make per hour after tax and commission on Pajeetwork? I'm also a pretty good writer when I try

As far as advice, I suggest considering learning to code

It really depends on what you mean by best. Most money? Most exciting? Best planes and people? I'll throw out some options to give you an idea:

>you work as a standard airline pilot for Delta, Southwest, or some other big company (disregard certain smaller airlines, because the planes are shitty, the pay is worse, and there's less career advancement)
>you fly private jets for some rich 1% Shlomo and get to travel to exotic locations and bang slav jetgirls on the side
>you fly for a private corporation and typically have a predetermined route, but you have more flexibility when it comes to working hours
>you fly to remote locations like Nepal that nobody else has the balls to go to and deliver goods or transport people in medium or small aircraft (high pay, exciting, dangerous, and exotic)
>you open your own private airport, declare yourself the FBO, and hire yourself out to whoever needs a flight (more potential gains, but you need business skills)

I'd recommend you get your private pilot license to start with and fly a few different aircraft to get an idea of what you like.

You're confusing things my dude.

Automation is like running a script to address a commonly occurring use case.
Machine learning is like solving a specific set of problems in a specific domain.
AI would be handling any given problem with no domain knowledge about it.

Automation is getting more common, machine learning is a meme right now. But AI? Real AI? Doesn't exist and probably won't for another 20 years.

It’s interesting but work life balance is pretty messed up. I’ll probably keep doing it as long as the learning curve is steep, the worst part in trading/finance is that is seems you can always read more (books, articles, news), always have to stay ahead of Markets/trends, it is often exhausting. However over the past I discovered a passion for data/coding so I’ll be moving to a more quantitative role soon - end game would be to run my own algorithmic options trading shop some years down the road. Well yes and no. It's quite passive and I'm taking all of my time to work on new projects, but I'm also living below my means so I can send every extra cent of income to paying off college debt so I can be free of that in the future.

It's okay. Cons: It can be depressing and burnout / high stress are real. I have maybe 4 male co-workers. Limited upward mobility (stuck in a payscale). I work nights. Pros: 12 hour shifts = off 15 days/month. Fulfilling work. No "checking emails from work" or "waiting for call from boss" like a lot of my buddies have. Unionized. AMA if curious about healthcare.

Stupid question but someone here might know
I have an accounting degree and am stuck working accounts payable because I lucked into the experience. The pay is mediocre and the job is incredibly boring, but almost comfy. I'd rather be a financial analyst (I think?) Is it a good job, more interesting than paying some company's bills and looking at 200 invoices a day? Or should I go into Big 4? I think audit sounds fun, and if I could get travel assignments I'd be pleased. Otherwise I thought AML might be cool. Anyway, I've never worked any of the 3 so what do I know. That is the right test.
This one is actual science and not Myers-Briggs bullshit.

I can see why there is some difficulty finding a career path.

Those genetic personality traits are tricky.

You were born with such a high Openness, you will need a job with a lot of variety.

Being highly Extraverted, means you need to work around people.

Being Disagreeable means it will be difficult to keep long term relationships with those people.

Nervous or Neurotic tendencies also make it hard to find something that keeps you from taking damage socially.

Honestly, I'm guessing you would be best suited for working outdoors with a big team. Or, maybe you are built to do something that makes you travel and change your environment on a semi regular basis.

From where I sit, it looks like your genetic temperament is optimized for physical labor... clearing forest, building stuff, exhausting your nervousness. Maybe make a huge list of everything you could enjoy doing outside with other people. Seriously dude, research what you could do outside with others.

Remember, the goal is to be happy and enjoy life. For you that probably means finding a job that involves a lot of change. You will probably have a hard time in most office settings.

If you're still struggling, those test results to an Evolutionary Psychologist and have them help you with your career search. There are some good ones that do phone consultations.

I just found a good one googling "evolutionary psychologist phone consultation"

Literally made money off another contractors work.

Took the money and ran rope access training programs for good margins, cherry picked the candidates that did really good and hired them to work for us. 4 people working for me right now, I still work full time as a Jr. Project manager for another company . With my apprenticeship years and journeyman years I so far have $2100 a month in pension when I retire. I've been able to max out my Roth IRA for 8 years going.

Things can be a little stressful but I can get pissed off and call it an early day whenever I feel like it. I can always quit and chill, do some traveling, sign the union books and be back to work.

Really if you don't want to be stuck with one company I think being a professional licensed union tradesman is the way to go. Plus you don't have to dick around in college.

I work in a 50 person camp right now in the artic. Life up here is very comfortable but there is no booze because people would not be able to control themselves with nothing to do. The big picture is a drilling company we contract pulls Kilometers of rock from deep in the earth to the surface so we can look at it and do analysis on to determine if there is enough of a resource (gold in my case) for large scale mine development. Geology itself can be complicated and each mineral deposit value is determined from advanced modeling from the data gained from the rock cores. Since this is a 100s of millions of dollars operation and I'm fresh from school I mostly assist in processing the core (scrubbing salt off of the it, taking basic measurements on how many cracks it contains, finding out how magnetic it is) but at the end of the month I get to move up the ladder to describing the core in terms of mineral assembage and structure (aka use my degree). My dream job is the person who takes all this information and builds the big models. I want to avoid leadership positions as I prefer big brain work as opposed to organizational. Luckily there is currently rooms for advancement in both not just in my company but at most operations especially in the marriage of data science and geology.

Get into the field, absolutely. I was conversing with a Cyber Security Partner for the Big 4 some weeks ago when he mentioned globally there's 0% job vacancy, with 200k roles unfilled. Pays fucking well if you know what you're doing.

If you're in university/college get into IT via internship or graduate program. From there build a relationship with the security guys. Ops, architecture, governance, whatever. Just be keen to learn and ask for an opportunity. Senior staff and ambitious people love seeing that shit. They can always use the help as well.

Just be prepared for what corporate environments are like when it comes to cyber security. The books, courses, etc will tell you what it should all look like. It will never look like that. When you hit the management ranks, you will be constantly battling budget issues, decision makers will often not understand the point of it all. Learn to communicate and negotiate on top of the technical security knowledge you'll build. That will make you much more effective than 99% of security professionals.

And yes, it's always who you know in the end. Get your foot in the door through hard work. Leverage connections to make it easier from there. I've managed to bump my pay by 40k this year alone and manage two promotions this way. Good luck.

I'll give you an important anecdote. Make of it what you will.

I do big data advertising and data management. Meaning I work with trillion+ data point sheets of structured and unstructured data constantly.

On the side, I consult for some extra money. I charge people $400 an hour for my expertise.

The most common things I notice with medium and small companies is their lack of understanding of how important data is. This was important 15 years ago and people are just now catching on (large companies have known forever). Even more crazy is a ton of small companies have 0 idea how important web presence is to the success of their company.

So many times I go in and the company either doesnt have a website or it's like a 4-5 page website. Many of these companies are just now onboarding to the internet. The dotcom bubble was almost 20 years ago.

AI will go the same way. The large companies will understand the importance of it first, use it to its fullest and then medium to smaller companies will follow decades later.

Can also at least virtue signal a resumé with lots of degrees, though to be honest I'm not sure if that helps or hurts after becoming so specialized with a PhD. If all goes according to play, I will have a bachelors degree in medicinal chemistry, PhD in materials chemistry, masters in statistics and a masters in computer science, applying for my first job at 28; Mixed feelings there, might be too qualified for entry level but not experienced enough for anything else.

I work remotely from home 99% of the time because of how incompetent the atmosphere is. My bosses have grown to fully trust me, I'm the only one allowed to work remote.

I want to either automate my job and make more money for higher output or go freelance and have other clients, or start a different business altogether. 85k sounds like a lot to some but rent is high and I am still paying student loans. air traffic controller

Surrounded by niggers, women, and retards because thats all the FAA hires anymore.

I enjoy being utterly superior to them in every way and being the 'go to guy' for busy traffic, since its basically women and minorities acknowledging that they need a white man to save them.

I wouldn't feel that way if the niggers, women, and retards could control traffic, but 5 years of this shit has demonstrated that 9/10 of all niggers, women, and retards who somehow make it through the FAA schoolhouse have absolutely no business being anywhere near a radio, much less directing the flow of air traffic around an airport.

I used to like the job, but now every day is a struggle to manage a crew of niggers, women, and retards, because they are incapable of acting responsibly without constant supervision.

When it's just me an a pattern it's bliss, but since I'm often the only actual human being in the facility, management of the livestock falls on my shoulders most of the time.

All the 'old white dudes' are retiring or have changed to more laid back facilities, or to super busy facilities. Entry-level facilities are staffed mostly by the dregs the FAA rounded up in their diversity hiring initiative (read: no white men allowed). I am looking for a way out, but I feel trapped since there are no responsible people to take my place at this facility, and my record is getting slammed because of all the shit the mongrels do on my watch.

I don't watch TV, but I'm sure whatever the segment was about was exaggerated for views. I can only tell you about what I've experienced.

I got in on the very tail end of "experienced controller hires", back when the FAA was taking prior rated air traffic controllers from the military and other backgrounds, and training them.

They started the shutdown of hiring whites and experienced controllers almost immediately after I was sent to my first facility. It would be comical how racist it is, if it was happening in a different industry.

ATC is not the place to have these gay little diversity experiments, but the psychotic Obama era appointees and upper management hires are literally a bunch of socialists, so basically the FAA is doomed.

Oh you think its scary now? Over the next 10 years 50-60% of experienced air traffic controllers are going to retire. The ones hired after Reagan fired a bunch of them.

Instead of trying to hire experienced, prior rated controllers, the FAA instead decided to start taking people off the street, no college experience required, only high-school diploma, and with a "diversity" initiative meant to "balance out" the employee pool of mostly white people.

So you've got a new generation of "air traffic controllers" with sub 100 IQ that consists mostly of niggers, women, mulattoes and other mutants that were chosen via LOTTERY and determined by the extremely relaxed screening process to be suitable for government employment, who are now being forced through the training pipeline.

All the retiring guys don't give a shit, so they pencil whip all the training documents and sign off for the nigger horde that the FAA threw into their lap. Why would they fight it? They would lose their retirement if they did, so the ONLY thing they can do is sign off on it, since the FAA has a gun to their heads.

It's a generation of competent, skilled tradesmen being replaced by a screeching mass of baboons and low iq roasties.

The FAA will blame the inevitable collapse of their safety numbers on 'increased traffic' and demand more automation technology that will allow their monkeys to slap buttons on a screen and make ATC happen.

We don't have the technology yet, and the breakdown and lack of training is TERRIFYING when shit hits the fan in an emergency situation or any time somebody needs to demonstrate some creativity in how they solve a complex traffic situation.

I'm so fucked if I stay.

>> No.10498163

>>10498042
Its not as bad as you think. For one, pilot's aren't retards(most of the time) and see and avoid is still the key rule in the sky. Plus if ATC is being retarded they can basically disregard their instructions to get to a position of safety. Furthermore with new improvements like the ADS-B mandate along with the TCAS systems the chance of hitting someone is pretty fucking low.

So basically its not like these dudes are purely relying on ATC. ATC is more like a traffic light at a busy intersection.

IDK, but things are accelerating. The FAA upper management is also retiring soon and the only ones left will be the Obama era appointees and out-of-agency hires. look you probably know this already, anything is better than being cube monkey AP invoice wrangler
>Or should I go into Big 4?
how much do you like assholes and sucking dick? I haven't heard many who are happy grinding in big 4 for promotion/partnership. think smaller firms are comfier and better than the 4
>audit
audit is dank and a great way to learn the whole business. anything in the compliance area is also good
>How do I transition when most of my experience is in AP and I'm not a "recent grad" anymore (been 2 years).
talk to some people who work in different areas, find out about their job, how the role works
improve excel skills (vlookup, pivot table, number manipulation, using the various excel buttons (eg trace precedents), learn the useful formula functions)
lrn2 interview eg demonstrate that you can learn stuff and have knowledge and are bright; demonstrate you communicate effectively with people and can get along with others
apply for positions where your AP is a benefit (eg multiskill position where you do a lot of different things rather than just a particular section of the business accounting)

Not sure what recruiters are looking for. I have my own shop. I only care if people can sell and where they are licensed. I hate how this business is feast or famine and nothing in between. While we were busy I was taking home between 30k-60k per month. Now that's about how much I will take home for the year. Don't do this job. Get something more stable.

My job title is Integrated Rating but I always tell people that I'm a deckhand on an offshore tugboat because that is much easier to understand.
Earn about $120,000AUD a year, work a five weeks on, five weeks off roster.
Fantastic job if you're single, excellent pay and a lot of time off. The downside is now that I'm in a relationship being away for so long is absolute torture. I work with plenty of guys who are married and have kids, I can't possibly imagine working away for so long and missing out on first steps, first words, birthdays etc.
I've been studying different careers to switch into but it's extremely difficult since I've become accustomed to the good pay and the skill set isn't very transferable to most land jobs.

I'm pretty sure anyone who is smart doesn't really like their job... unless they are working on their own personal creation and it is simultaneously making them money, fame, and getting them laid.

Of course this is not actually possible for every person to pull off, so wagecuck we must.
