What's a decent home cost nowadays?
I remember in the 90's $1million would get you a top of the line mansion but now all you get for that money is some particle board ugly piece of shit designed and built by third world retards.

Is $10+ million the new threshold for owning a respectable home?

fyi, pic is $10.25

you aren't paying for the house, you're paying for the location

why not just live where you want to and be happy with that instead of worrying about what some arbitrary definition of "respect" is?

This. Move away from a costal liberal state and you could buy low on a great home.

Not only that, the particle board shit house would be next to a crime-ridden neighborhood or near homeless encampments.

$10 millions for that shit? Lol You could buy a $10 million house in the French Riviera with ocean view. And no, it wouldn't be a small house but rather quite large and modern with a very nice pool outside, basically what you actually envision as a millionaire luxury's house.

Fuck giant houses like that. Imagine the cost of upkeep.

Five figures a month just to keep your garden from cucking you or the county from seizing your house.

this, but good luck finding a house with ocean view in the french riviera tho

Remember that old, worn out phrase of "location, location, location" you'd always hear when someone was talking about Real Estate? Well they say it for a reason. More people want to live in a city/nice suburb then they want to live in a more rural area. Hence why you get some much more for a lot less.

Buying a massive house isn't going to make you happy OP. Additionally, you have to take into account maintenance (1% of the homes value), taxes (roughly 1.5% of the assessed value), and all the utilities, hoa, etc. Expenses on top of that. Live within your means and only buy a place you can maintain both financially and physically. I've seen a countless number of people go in way over their head whether it's financially, in maintenence, or both and they ALL ultimately regret it.

Don't forget about the taxes either!

It fluctuates depending on where you live, but if you want to budget conservatively, expect to pay 1.5% of your assessed value. So add an additional $150,000 to your expenses each year just so you have the privilege to live in the house you paid for and you're responsible for up keeping.

You don't you just rent a little 1k apartment and get rich instead?
