I've just watched the new Richard Heart interview and he gave a short opinion about Chainlink. Watch from 1:24:00, only about 1.5 minutes long.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8XItl65QBM

According to him the oracle problem is either not solvable or if solved worth more than any other crypto.
The CL whitepaper does mention sybil attacks briefly, but I'm also remembering this Reddit post here, stating that sybil attacks are the single biggest problem to a decentralized oracle network and the solutions from Chainlink won't work.

Fittingly that thread got no replys. Well, who would know, most of us are brainlets anyway.

Thoughts?

Discussed sybil attacks with Thomas already. It's why the reputation system is a big fucking deal and one of the most complex challenges they're working on.

>> No.10440273

see validation, reputation and certification sections of whitepaper.

that plus "Sybil attacks resulting in false data, mirroring, and collusion in general may be
eliminated by the use of trusted hardware in our long-term strategy (see Section 6)."

What they has to do right is make the reputation system phenomenal, and able to deter reputation farming. They also hold the majority of tokens at this time because a wealthy entity could buy most of the tokens for cheap otherwise. I don't think it will be an issue for Link

>> No.10440284

A sybil attack is honestly the only legitimate FUD on chainlink but knowing this the team has prepared a few defenses against it. It's not infallible by any means but it would be damn hard to pull off a sybil attack on a well used chainlink network, and CL is designed to be upgradeable so they will likely throw in more layers of defense as CL's weaknesses become more apparent through usage
