So besides my managed funds and other investments I decided to do a few direct investments last year that paid off:
> $546 Netflix
> $400 AfterPay
> $500 BTC
> $500 Silver
It's done pretty damn well for 12 months and is the highest risk portion of my investments now sitting at about $3700 atm and I'm going to be buying a house next year. Now with my cashflow I won't need this money for the deposit but it would be nice to get a bit more growth out of it and then pull it out.

What do you guys reckon the odds of this "portfolio" hitting about $5k in value by the end of the year or mid next year? Or are the risks just way too high for that level of growth?

I've never actually asked anyone for investment advice before but I'm getting a little bit scared that I'm being way too greedy or that I'm going to miss a great year for these assets with Trumps economic changes etc. What do you lads think?

Also just generally what'ya reckon with FANG stocks in the future?

>it would be nice to get a bit more growth out of it and then pull it out. Investing is for life. Imagine you run a company for 1 year and leave... That's basically what you'll be doing.

Watch Shark Tank and value companies exactly like them then you'll do good in the market.

Ya that's what I've been doing with my managed funds, I'm just trying to go hard with these excess funds. Just not sure if there's any decent outlook for the end of year etc.

Don't stock markets generally go in cycles in the short term over each year? Christmas time is notorious for ????, mid-year is notorious for ???? and so on? I thought I remember reading a lot of people under up selling down come Christmas time and so on.

You can't time the market consistently over a long period of time. People have tried and tried again but failed. But you'll see people who own businesses for a long period of time succeed.

Imagine it like this, if you owned a physical company, would you sell it one day and buy it again later because you think the company will be less valuable in the future and you can profit off the difference? That's speculation. You should instead have the company, and keep enjoying the earning the company is making.

Buy stocks of companies that are consistently growing. If they dip at a good valuation, buy more. Until the end goal of getting passive income through dividends.

Also....

If you bought 1 KO (coke) stock in 1995 for 40 dollars.
It would be worth 4 coke stocks now for total of 184. Plus total dividend would since 1995 would be 76.05. That's 260 dollars in total.
Over 600% profit. 26% gain average since purchase.

40 = 260.
400 = 2600.
4000 = 26,000.
40,000 = 260,000.

Yeah that's the basic idea behind investing and becoming financially independent (ie. if you quit your job tomorrow would your passive income be able to maintain your lifestyle etc) but if we were just talking stock outlooks for the rest of the year and next year, and you had to take a gamble what would you say?

I understand investing is long term and holding good companies long term can be great AND that if you hold long term you can eventually pull out with a profit rather than crystalizing losses etc but this is my high risk short term money.

I honestly just wish I did the same investment the previous 12 months and got a good 2 years out of it all rather than just the last year.

I personally have a cap on my money at 10k.
I'll be making it 15k soon. After that everything goes to investing and whatever I find lowest in valuation.

I look at everything as asset classes. Currency, stocks, real estate, bonds.

Stock market overall IS overvalued but you can pick individual companies that aren't. At the same time it's not a bad idea to adjust to having more cash or gold in a very good economy. But just don't go around trading. Buy good companies and hold it. When the economy goes into a recession and interest rates are artificially lowered, is not a bad idea to grab a low interest business loan and start investing.
