>Banks often charge a small free to deposit coins into your account
>Stores hate being paid in only coins, even in reasonable numbers
>Minting coins that get lost is expensive
>Small coins almost impossible to get rid of unless you carry enough around to pay exact change.

How long until society stops trying to con itself with "9.99 is obviously cheaper than 10" and everything is priced in whole numbers to remove change or anything lower than a whole number?

japan has a nice system, you can pay with coins and prices on the labels are what you pay

Germany.

Online currency isn't what I'm talking about. Online currency can do whatever it wants. But fuck stores charging 3.17 for a physical purchase and then cashiers getting pissy with you because you want to get rid of some quarters, dimes, and pennies.

Every civilized country has that system.

Additionally, fuck the banks for charging me to deposit my own money into my account just because it's not conveniently bill shaped.

intedesting, seems like it would work weird in the US as every county has a different sales tax rate and businesses wouldnt want to swallow the small tax difference trying to keep uniformed prices

Where I live different categories of products have different tax rates, for example the tax on alcohol is higher than on food, but the total price with tax included is printed on the price tags. It's not that hard to let a computer calculate the price and automatically print the tags.

Just give them to homeless people or toss em on the ground. I know most credit unions will do coin counting for free.
