Frankly speaking, out of 2816 after taxes a month plus 850, I could save a lot more. At this point, I'm just trying to get my car paid off (350 left and I pay 100 weekly) and pay down a few other longstanding debts (7000 tops) while putting aside what I can.
Long and short is I was living in a too expensive place for a while and not making enough to make ends meet, so I ran up 20K in debt. Over the last 2 years I've been paying it down, so less than 7500 after 2 years left is actually pretty good for me.

Stop. No really just stop and think. Who benefits from you paying down debt sooner? The lenders do, Unless your rates are crazy high you pay that shit as long and low as you can. If its student loans go refinance literally today, you can do it online. Its a great thing you are saving, but people are obsessed with living 0 debt lives. When you have cars, houses, student loans, or even a business, its best to use debt in your purchase at low rates for long periods of time. Would you rather have 100k and 100k of debt or no debt and no money? Wealth maximization is all about protecting cash flow. Where does your cash flow? Do you have a budget? Is the debt you have at the lowest rate you can get? Are you paying it slowly but on time to build credit?

Do you have an umbrella policy to protect yourself from potential lawsuit, which could liquidate you in seconds? I guess this my panel for the day. Most advisors won't suggest you buy an Umbrella Insurance Policy. It doesn't make them much money, however it protects you from any potential lawsuit. If you hit a lawyer and his wife sues, they could take your assets and siphon off your paycheck till you die. Umbrella policies are cheap as hell, and cover you for millions of dollars.

Well to be frank, one of those debts went into collections. So that's getting the big pay off, I have no option in that matter and it's not an account I can use anymore. The other one, however, is actually a "Get down to 30% or less" in reality. I'm aware I need a certain credit utilization ratio. That is on the 5700 account where my limit is only 6000. You can see the problem there.
Keep in mind that less than a year ago my credit rating was 400 something. Now it's just barely 620...
My cash flows as following:
House (550 a month) ((Rent)) bills ((Non debts)) of 366 Car (400 a month) Debt In collection: 150 debt on regular still active card: 117
That's my cash flow on non major items. on Food smokes liquid it's bout 125 tops a week.
The debt I have is at 18% interest on one. Not much I can do for that. The credit card that's still active and I can utilize is being paid off slowly but on time every month.

Most of my insurance policies come from government related insurances I qualified for as a result of my time in the Army. So in that regard I have a level of safety. I also have a 500K life insurance policy and free healthcare for life due to radiation exposure while I was in. So I've been able to leverage essential protections more or less for free in that regard.

That was like 50% of my monthly expenses that got eliminated so I could then use that money for other stuff instead of having to use it to make a mortgage payment every month. That was in 2014 and I haven't had any debt since then and it's been fucking great. Everyone else my age (30) has debt out the ass and never has any money left over to do anything and they're constantly worried about being able to make payments. Mostly because long term retirement savings does not happen through my employer. So I'm using stash invest at an amount of 50 bucks a week on etfs. I can easily afford that. Plus I'm playing it as advised from other financial advisors who suggest that while it's good to pay down regular debt, you should also put money aside for savings to have a proper cushion. Keep in mind, I've paid off 13000 of that debt so far in less than 2 years

>> No.10430378

Hey class! Let's talk about bear put spreads.

What do you think the odds are that AMZN drops 10% after earnings? Do you think they're better than 14:1?

If you buy the 1680 put and sell the 1650 put, you have a spread that costs $189 and pays out $2811 if AMZN drops past 1650. (If it's above 1680, you lose the whole $189). That's almost 15:1. Who wants to gamble with me?

I'm sure I'll need to get another loan at some point to buy a bigger house or some land, and I keep 2 credit cards with high limits that I pay off every month to keep my credit score ~800 but I've seriously enjoyed having no debt or payments to keep up with for the last 4 years.

I guess the real problem is that most people overburden themselves with debt to the point where almost all of their monthly income goes towards making payments and they have no money left over to live on or maintain an emergency savings fund.

Its not like debt is fucking amazing, but if you have/need it, or are a business, it is beneficial to pay long and slow. Home mortgages are a different beast cause they can have high rates, but anything 4% or lower is manageable for long term plans. Debt over 4% is a cancerous blight on your body draining your life force.

>>10430290
Your debt is kinda high, but if you just learn from this after paying it off you will be alright. Usually I dance around it and try not say things that might offend people, but nigga you ain't paying me. As I said above, anything 4% or lower, hell even 5-6 for you, pay long term. If its higher you should work on that as soon as possible.
Military benefits can be pretty baller, but if the life insurance is not part of that, and you took the time to getting it, look into whole life. Thats assuming you have a family in the picture.

You are spending a metric fuckton on debt, but the upside is once those higher rate ones are gone, you will have an easier time saving for different things. Additionally, and I know this is painful, before paying the debt down as fast as possible, you need half a year income minimum saved as cash or liquid assets. Life throws curve balls, and it would be tragic if you had to take on even more debt and fuck that credit score that you've been fixing.

Honestly I learned from it back in 2016 when I finally left the state I was living in and dedicated my time to paying it off. I moved back to my home state and have been doing such since then. My parents were kind of annoyed at me the other week because they asked where all my extra money was going and I said "Paying my debts off" They were rather mad that I was prioritizing that so much since they figured I should have half a years worth saved up instead.
Anyways, yeah I'm iffy about any debts after this. It kind of became a single minded ambition to fix my debt and credit score while also getting my life, if you will, in order. Before I got the job I'm at now, I actually had much less funds to work with, so having breathing room is nice at the moment. In 2 or so weeks an additional 400 a month opens up, so that gives me even more breathing room to save and invest.

I appreciate frankness, people like to step around and not address the big problems. Half the reason I come to these boards is because at the end of the day, people aren't sugarcoating shit for me.

As for families..
Well truth be told I lost mine in a car accident (They were hit by a drunk driver. I was in Korea at the time). Ever since then I haven't exactly had a proper family.

I mean, if I made $1 million on a couple of stock trades and then turned around and lost $950k on a couple more within the same year then I'd only be on the hook for $50k worth of capital gains. Does trading options not work that way?

Futures does and it's easy as fuck to calculate, all you need to report is your net gain or loss for the year, you don't even have to itemize every trade with futures.

Ok I'm going to sell. Ford looks like a good pick-up. I'm going to buy some stocks in Ford right now and once the Amazon ER is out today, see what happens with the rest of the market, and then buy Ford calls for late August.

Are late August Ford calls a good idea in /smg/'s opinion?

Heh, my girlfriend has a Bachelor's of Science degree in fucking photography and has worked in social media marketing for several companies. Since she met me she's gotten her shit together though, has become a realtor, and is now making bank and using her social media & internet marketing skills to sell houses.

its true, the time for the renaissance man is returning
all these poor saps that bought overpriced specialized degrees in specific jobs that were popular before they were going to school will suffer. even more so when automation starts replacing even the specialized jobs

itll be the people who are good at a little bit of everything that will still be able to eek out a living in the world of tomorrow
