Facebook Earnings
Facebook earnings rose 32% to $1.74 a share. That beat estimates for $1.72. But revenue rose 42% to $13.23 billion, below estimates for about $13.3 billion. Facebook also signaled that revenue growth and profit margins will slow sharply.

Facebook had 1.47 billion daily active users, in line with views. Monthly active users of 2.23 billion were just shy of estimates for 2.24 billion.

Facebook stock plunged 23% late after hitting a new high heading into results.

All stocks at the moment are massively overvalued on the premise that they will keep overperforming and growing at mega speed. Non more so than tech stocks. Most earnings/price multipliers are double digits 15-25x is not uncommon.

My honest question, is how many billion fake accounts do they have on top of that?

I find it mind boggling that a company as big and as greedy as Facebook wouldn't cook their own books in terms of users and even bot their own ad click to double dip on revenue while inflating the supposed effectiveness of ads in general.

I just don't possibly see how a company can be so large, so greedy, so evil, and not be doing this.

FB is valued on future growth. It was $600B+ social network company. Not only is the growth fickle, but it's a social network that essentially sells your info. It's a bit expensive for what it is. It worked while normies didn't know what FB was. Granted, some morons will still use FB, but why would you give up all your info for stupid social network, when there are other options. It's very expensive for what it is, so it's not the end of trouble. But the real reason shit sells off like that is sensitivity to model parameters. If analysts modeled say 30% growth and it will have 20% growth, the stock will not drop 10%, but 10% annualized over the modeled period. So you can have growth in earnings and a total collapse of a stock once modeled assumptions changed. But this has other serious issues besides growth deceleration. The business is selling personal data for usage of a social network, so users are not necessarily sticky.

>Three key factors are driving Facebook's expected revenue growth decline, Wehner said. First, Facebook is battling currency headwinds. Its overseas revenue got a boost in dollar terms as the dollar appreciated against other currencies last year. But the dollar's decline this year will reduce the dollar value of Facebook's foreign revenue.

Fb is going to totally shit its pants tomorrow.

I work for an investment company selling mutual funds and gay shit like that for retirement plans. I am not a stock broker and I dont deal in the secondary market at work.

I do, however, talk to investing normies all fucking day and they all bought Facebook. Its right up there with gold on the list of things clueless boomers ask me about and then buy despite my very balanced reasonable advice. It's the ultimate novice stock. These lay investors are the people that panic sell, then buy when things " look like they are going really good" (i.e. buy high every time).

These actual boomers have been buying fb for years, and due to FBs so far decent growth they are all going to find themselves sitting on FB positions that despite the drop are still up. They will decide to cut and run " before the crash" and there will be a line around the block to sell in the morning. I guarantee you some of these fucks are laying in bed right now setting their alarm clocks 30 minutes earlier so they can call etrade before work.

Tldr the normie appeal of FB will amplify the panic effect of a sell off screencap this

Their guidance was garbage and people are scared tho. I’m unsure, the hidden bot/spam account problem is a real thing, lots of their ad revenue is bogus. Ask yourself how a social media company can achieve a market cap of $700B well.. there is a lot of smoke and mirrors involved

Whats App is mainly used by Pajeets to lynch innocent people, and the migration from Facey to Instagram hasn't stemmed the exodus, let alone been net growth.
The problem is when you have a fuck tonne of fake accounts, of course your user-base metrics are inflated. However they've been able to get away with it because advertisers and media buyers have been sucking the teat of Facebook as they look for a way to maintain exposure as print ads and television die down. The advertising industry has known for years that Facebook is bullshitting but individual firms they haven't been in a position to do anything about it

Putting aside their guidance, a PE of 25 and massive year-over-year growth are great.

I'll listen to the conference call again. But put it this way, the market in general is expensive.

Name a company with a PE like FB that, like FB, is more or less immune to tariffs.

It's late. I meant to write name a company with a comparable PE to FB that's basically insulated from the effects of tariffs and trade uncertainty.

I think the point was that the whole CA shitstorm really got to them, they’re restructuring their whole business model and demonetizing some aspects. They’re going to scale back the revenue on data collection, which was a major selling point. It doesn’t bode well for their growth potential, how many other ways can you make money off of a social media app?

Tread carefully is all I’m saying. Not all stocks are winners. I was bullish before but they’re looking shook now and if another revelation emerged it would kill the stock.

Software dev here. Let me break it down for ya.

>AI
Total meme outside of research. Very few companies are able to pull this off. Most small startups claiming to have AI are using Indians on UpWork and "forgetting" to pay them.

> Big Data
Not a meme. Data is powerful stuff if you know how to run the statistics correctly.

> Blockchain
Total meme. Most blockchain startups are just trying to steal people's money.

> FAANG
The only two that I see being stable are Microsoft and Netflix. All others are possibly destined for the chopping block. Regardless of the outcome, we have a lot of tech advancement that FAANG created that will give me stuff to work on for years to come.

> Fintech
Depends on the project. Some of the apps that have come out in recent years (eg Robinhood) have literally opened doors for those who lacked the expertise to use higher tier financial services.

> Bottom Line
I feel like a pop has been overdue. But I don't like to think of it as a pop, but as a "drastic correction". Big tech will still be around in some capacity, but it will be on a much more equal playing field with the little guys (if the SEC does their fucking job).

>AI is a meme
No, it's still young and needs tons of data to train the nets, but look what Google has done with google assistant, their pixel 2 camera, and the google duplex they're going to launch, whi is creepy advanced.
>blockchain is a meme
I see this all the time on hacker news, I used to think they're just spiteful faggots who missed btc, but there are just a few use cases for the blockchain, a virtual gold like btc, virtual currency like nano or stellar, distributed computer like ethereum which is shit but enables internal smartcontracts and something like chainlink to enable external contracts, then once the core is solid we will have a shit ton of use cases built on top of it, we're unironically still in the tcp/ip phase of development.

>> No.10425928

Medior software dev and FP evangelist here. Most certainly blockchain is not a meme. Corporations struggle so hard with data integrity and retention you wouldn't believe.
