I'd think that as well, but I've read about people calling and asking for investor relations for smaller to mid sized companies, and they claim they'll get a call back from the CFO if there are no IR employees. Somebody on (((reddit))) claimed they walked into the office of a company they had invested in out of curiosity and after asking for IR ended up having a coffee with the CEO. I don't know how much he had invested, though he said the secretary looked confused, as though she had never been asked before.

>Is the actual market different? Does the dollar affect much? Are there companies we can't invest in as Canadians? What are some good brokerage accounts to use?

You can buy any US stock with any regular investing account in Canada. Recommend exchanging your CAN funds to USD ahead of time, hopefully at a favorable exchange rate, before funding your investing account with USD for US trades. You can just straight buy US stocks with a CAN account but your broker will give you a shit exchange rate at that time.

Only Canadian specific quirk is the CSE. Stocks on the CSE cannot be traded with stop orders (stop loss and the rest of the variations of stop orders). Limit order or market order only. This makes CSE stocks particularly high risk.

Shop around for brokerage. I use RBC and it's fine, although I use other outside sites for charting/research purposes.

A company can only rise until the dividends are sufficiently diluted by the price growth that other investments are more attractive or it no longer looks reasonable for another company to buy it out.

I imagine this is a contributing factor in why consumer discretionaries/staples/non-cyclicals started seeing so many acquisitions following the landslide in the sector/industry earlier this year.
Prices slid, then the companies got this beautiful buying opportunity to start buying out their competitors at insane prices.

This is also one of the ideas of how VC firms are profitable -- they hope that their stake in the company becomes profitable and highly valuable; one common way this happens is that a much larger company acquires the start-up prior to even the IPO occurring.

I feel like theres no more room for earnings gains now. Or rather, earnings may flip the sentiment again.

For example: APPL is a shit company that basically sells one single product. But they make billions off of re-marketing little black rectangles to dum-dums every year, so whatever, good for them. However, that single product has been a flop this year. This combined with the massive share buybacks is going to make the books look bad. Dude you are so upset that someone might be better than you at something you try really hard at. Like fuck man, if someone has a good strategy that works for them, at least think a little more outside the box about it. OTM options are for retards and gamblers. ITM options are the only way to make consistent gains. I'm not trying to sit here playing tricks on you or anyone else, but I am being consistent with the way I am handling these options. They aren't random guesses. Before I put my money into any position, I look at a handful of different indicators, get second opinions, pick an expiration (usually a few months out), pick a strike with decent greeks that won't fuck me and that is ITM, build an exit strategy, and execute. Yeah not every one pays off, but my wins offset my losses and I average 10% daily.
The only short-term ones I play with are SPY and they are where the majority of my gains come from. I'm in and out of those positions within minutes to hours. I'm literally holding ONE SPY position right now overnight which I really hate doing because anything can happen overnight, but today, all signs point to hold until at least tomorrow morning.

I'm more than willing to lay my strategy out for everyone to take a look at. I don't fudge my numbers because this is my main source of income. Everyone can call me a liar all they want but hey, you can lead a horse to water, right?

i don't care if people do better than me. I do okay and I'm fine with that.
I don't like people coming in here with their bullshit and people entertaining it.

averaging 10% a day for only 200 days would give you $20 billion on a $1000 investment.
so clearly they misunderstand the meaning of AVERAGE 10% or more likely like to bullshit about how awesome they are

so if anon has anything less than 20 billion in his account he's lying.

i think a lot of them were doing it specifically to push it down and buy more. i watched that depth chart for days m8
they kept it down around half a penny for as long as they could, but then ANOTHER contract came through.

if things work out the way i think they could, their tiny little micro Mcap could double or more

ive been excited on the OTC memes recently. they ignore everything related to the real world. you just gotta look real hard through things for the good ones (or ask around and DD the fuck out of them all to weed out pajeet scams). and you gotta watch the depth charts, short float etc, not the price action

They also post stuff that's more general sector overviews or discussions, as opposed to shilling individual picks (They do that too) which is helpful beginner stuff because it can tell you what kind of things to consider during your research. Also, learn to read a balance sheet and understand key metrics like eps, ebitda, cash flow, etc. Opening up a balance sheet and just researching the numbers/ metrics is a good way to start

Good, a solid goal and one with a reasonable timeframe. I suggest looking at growth and value stocks: things which are more stable (less risky but also less moon shot reward potential). The goal is share price that will go up significantly over 5-10 years. This means that you should avoid businesses which have cyclical trading patterns for long term holds (which should be your main strategy), but buying at the bottom of the cycle then selling at the top is fine

Generally, bonds are inverse of stocks. A well diversified long term portfolio (your retirement accounts) should hold both, but bonds significantly underperform stocks on average. Bonds shine during recessions. Don't worry about inflation and rates for your investments for now, as you should be focusing on capital accumulation, but these are things to learn about.
For reading, there's what's in the op and I also suggest things Buffett recommends:
https://www.inc.com/business-insider/18-books-that-influenced-warren-buffet.html
Don't work about underlying market forces and such, and technical econ like Keynes is a waste of your time. Focus on things that are easy to digest as teach you how to identify and understand healthy companies. You're trying to make money by investing in a handful of these, not by dominating the market. Suggest Intelligent Investor and Common Stocks, Uncommon Profits

>> No.10214113

One more thing to think about is that given your timeframe, it's quite likely that there will be a major market correction during it. This is not a reason to not invest! But you have to be aware that such things are inevitable, so you shouldn't be reliant on getting your money out at any specific point in time. Also, opportunity cost and dollar cost averaging tie in here: pullbacks are buying opportunities if you have cash and are confident the company/ market will recover within your desired timeframe

25% dividend growth is not sustainable for a company like SBUX. A 6% dividend is sustainable for a company like T. SBUX is going to hit a wall in growth, T is going to keep chugging with a 1 cent increase per year. For you to get more out of SBUX than T, every cent you lose by not investing in T as SBUX grows its dividend needs to be made up by SBUX exceeding T's dividend. Just don't see the hype. Buy cheap bluechips instead.

if all they did was real estate then they would be a reit. reits dont sell food... at all. like at all. reits do not sell food. just because real estate is part of their business does not qualify them as a reit.

GBR had a retirement facility that brought in revenue, but they didn't specialize in retirment facilitys they specialize in oil and gas. Corporations aren't really that hard to understand, maybe one day when you create one to put some of your shit in you will understand.
