What thinks / biz / about gems as a financial investment

>> No.10203795

Gems that are hard to find are a hidden gem.

why would anyone want to buy something that is hard to find?
Maybe you suddenly need it at one point, but you don't know where you put it.

Hmmm, are you in it to buy and sell them for a profit or just as a store of value?

my family is in this business

it greatly depends on the prices you buy with

i think its a good hold of value, or at least a decent way to transfer money that relatively easily convertable to cash anywhere in the world

if you want to do this, its an acceptable idea if youre both buying a large volume (tens of thousands) and find a very bargain-price stone. you can not find such stones, but we can for you, if you want.

no online retailer or physical retailer would go out the way for you to find you stones that would maintain value as much as possible

everything is a good investment if you buy cheap and everything is a bad investment if you buy high... if you buy a rolex with a resale value of 1000 for 2000 its a bad idea, but if you buy a rolex with a resale value of 1000 for 1000 then at worst case you barely lose any money and best case it goes up in value but you never lose much

my family's shop has handled several bitcoin transactions (all taxed and legally processed of course) for diamonds or diamond jewelry (for investment purposes, dont buy jewelry, just loose diamonds) and if you are interested i could help.

if you tax your profits instead of use bitcoin to buy select (relative) low price diamonds, or you buy a diamond with btc and sell it onwards, i can pretty much guarantee more profit in your pocket than after taxes... but like i said our shop taxes the profits so its all 100% legit.. we must even confirm identify of buyers

As long as De Beers can maintain its majority position on the international market as a producer and seller, it would be pretty safe even though they artificially keep the supply lower by storing diamonds in warehouses.

If other competitors would force them out of this position, there could be a lowering of prices. Some for example look at artificial diamonds as a potential threat.

I'd buy bullion instead because it gives a bit more certainty in the long term.

I want one of each color, like ruby, emerald, etc.

If you buy bulk uncut stones directly (so grnerally illegaly) from miners in places like Nepal than smuggle it back in your stomach(i knew a chick that did that for years...) and bring it back to the west and sell it to (((them))) than sure.
But if you just wanna buy stones from (((them))) and hope it goes up in value thats stupid...gems are absolutely useless...unlike gold they are not divisibile nor fungible...also the whole market is a monopoly (de beers) so they decide if prices go up or down

>my family is in [diamond] business
delet this before /pol/ see it.

Seriously though, what is one's best option for resale value of a stone. Like would you just pop into any old jeweler or do you actually need to find collectors or even auction houses? (assume it's not a pissy, run of the mill engagement ring. But instead something bought as a store of value).

Also, what do you know about Opals?

hahaha good luck with that i know some people who tried throughout the years and got royally fucked... they tried in africa

nepal? good luck

dont you think any guy could just smuggle it in his anus while mining it? you really think its that easy? hah

id love to see you try that

we specialize in diamonds but i can fix you up with someone dealing with gemstones.

it doesnt matter WHAT you buy, as long as the price is GOOD

you can buy sugar or coffee and become rich instantly if the price is good enough

PRICE. PRICE. PRICE.

Point taken - buy low, sell high (if you can). But you have no advice on generally on-selling? I mean surely some places are more inclined to give you a better deal than others, in the same way that those "cash for gold" places underpay because no one knows how much gold is really worth.

Ofcourse i would never take the risk.
The chick that did it did it for years and then stopped because che changed lifestyle.
You buy them from crooked people who work in mines (like some mid level superiors...)...most of the population of Nepal doesnt have the money for a fucking airplame ticket and eaven if they did where would they go?

Sorry i really wouldnt know where you can sell them...it's probably not that easy but theres probably a market for it, you must just go through people that know people and so on...

i could help you find a very special diamond, like -60% list price or possibly lower that has good resale value at -40%... we have a website and everything... but im skeptical about showing the link here dont want to attract weird people.. would gladly share the link through email or something.

most people who sell diamonds dont sell directly to consumers, like 90% of the trading is done between diamond people.. if you wait a few years and you select the right diamond im convinced you can sell it at a profit.. even if you just try and find a seller on RAPNET (google it, its only like $120 a year or something) where most traders deal in diamonds. wait enough and someone would bite. the diamond i would select for any buyer buying large volume (or diamonds) would be ones i consider would have great long term retale value.. its not a diamond you can find many of and eventually someone will pay significantly higher than what you have paid... at some point some diamond dealer would need exactly that diamond and you will be able to sell it at the best price he can find.. if you just keep it somewhere locked up and noone ever knows you have it wont happen, but if you actively search for a buyer eventually you will find one paying higher than your buy price, i cant guarantee it but i am highly convinced, because i have direct access to the diamond list of the largest diamond cutting company in the world... its some deep into the market stuff.. they buy directly from de beers

...field too long? cont

if i did this in big volume which ive never done, i could reduce profits to almost nothing just a few % and still make it worth my time. considering its a legit company established in 1991 with online precense and only one review of 4 stars or less youd be making the payments to, you can be assured its not some weird business going on

like i said, fully income taxed, payments processed through coingate.. we are based in the EU and if you buy from yurop you pay taxes, so thats actually not worth your investment as these marigins change everything... however sales to outside of the eu are tax exempt, the government does this to endorse volume in the diamond trade, it makes them more money to take from income tax than all the missed clients from the extra taxes.. import fees may apply

alo want to hit the gym before eating and im pretty hungry so i wont last long so in case my id changes or thread is gone and reliability is no longer promising or if its actually me then at least take my advice heavily into consideration in summary:

- buy larger volume
- know the market and buy heavily under list price
- stones that are scarce and hard to find, very scarce
- cutting tax expenses by ordering from a country that can export tax free is a good plan
- find someone you trust if you wanna do this who gives you good advice

dont just jump into doing it, you will get fucked, but do it proper and it will be ok

Thanks for the info.
I kind of forgot that diamonds aren't a interchangeable commodity, each one has it's own flaws and unique attributes.
