I'm a pricing analyst now and I don't know what that is. What is it that I do? I was very under-qualified.

You see how prices affect the bottom line. For example your selling 1k units at 10$ each. You could test to see if you would sell more units at a cheaper price. Let's say you charged 9$ eat but sold 3k units. You make more with lower prices. You could also charge 100$ each and find you still sell 1k units.

you should also understand how your company's offering compares vs. competitors of similar quality and price point. you should understand your company product's competitiveness in regards to price on a geographic level as well and how regional preferences impact the picture.

Sounds cool, I'm sure I'll figure it out over time.

Also,

>be history major
>have to justify in an interview how history has anything to do with data analysis
>fucking pull it off somehow

This shit is so fucking easy literally go on google right now and search "maximization/minimization calculus" as well as "marginal cost and marginal product".

Matter of fact here's a video I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A78lu9JDmgo

This is shit you'd learn in microeconomics 101 though I'm sure your job is tougher than that. But as long as you know this 101 shit you might scrape by if you go full chad boomer and shake your bosses hand.

Also, where'd you find this type of job? I want one too.

I picked a random city to move to and then searched "analyst" on all of the job boards. I sent resumes to every single position that didn't require more than 2 years experience (they sometimes consider you even if they say they require 1-2 years). When one company wanted to do an interview I researched them, looked up the 27 most common job interview questions, and then wrote my answers to all of them beforehand. I made sure to have my own questions too to make it look like I cared about the company and its history. When they asked why I wanted to work with data, I tried linking it to my own personal mission of understanding the world by learning different academic disciplines/skillsets and how data and statistics are a much more objective way to see the world than just studying the humanities (which I had enough of after 4 years of college).

Also the company is some fruity hipster thing that popped up in a hick town and they'll probably elated that I'm not a local.

Good on you lad. Proud of you, mind saying which city out of curiosity? Or state, if you're trying to stay anon. Don't worry, i wont come over there trying to steal your job, just trying to scope some new areas to try out myself.

Congrats, Anon.
A price analyst has to do with pong-term impact on price actions. It is similar to strategic controlling, except that you analyze it from the outer perspective, not the inner perspective (like a controller would).

That is what a pricing analyst would do for us, at least. If we had one. Right now, this task is a shared responsibility among the controllers and the marketing department...

I'm a history major and work in insurance and I'm basically doing advanced accounting + policy. There is a huge demand out there for people who can actually read + research, be sociable, and do basic math at the same time.
