Just look at the pic. A gap just occurs because the CME (boomers in suits trading fake bitcoin) take weekends off. However, Bitcoin continues to trade on the weekend because it's crypto. Back in February 2019, the price was X on one Friday, and it mooned on the weekend. When the CME traders came back to their offices after the weekend , the price never traded as low as X ever again. Thus, a gap was formed. You don't need to understand how futures work. It's literally just a result of Bitcoin trading on weekends but not in boomer wall street world. The other thing to understand is that over 90% of these "gaps" get filled, i.e. the price revisits that level.
