>am i fucking up by collecting us constitutional silver in europe?

No more than us burgers who like collecting silver coins from Europe. US junk silver is pretty well recognized globally so it'll do its monetary duties if/when things get interesting.

Unfortunately that appears to be a cast copy of a Roman denarius of Octavian, emperor driving quadriga/victory on prow. The lack of "crispness" between the fields and designs, strange casting bubble lookin' cavities, and weird aesthetics give it away. Serbia is full of awesome treasure but is infested with fake/forgery workshops too.

Based Asahi kilo btw, gonna do any more beer pics?

A Roman soldier was paid a denarius a day, about 1/10th Ozt of silver, and would need to pay for food and other expenses too.

>i saw tetradrachms and denarius being auctionned for 25-30 bux with 0 buyers, and the sellers looked very legit..
>It there something i'm missing?

There are tons of fake coin sellers on eBay, but plenty of legit dealers too. Always check the fake Ancient Coin sellers lists like http://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=18502.0 for their username and research the coins too. Plenty of genuine Roman silver denarii can be had for $20-30 but most aren't high grade or appealing.

Genuine numismatics struck for circulation are very different from meme numismatics that are basically all kept in pristine uncirculated condition because they don't circulate and we're never meant to. They can be quite attractive but won't ever really be desirable to serious coin collectors. Maybe consider early 20th century and earlier coins if you're hedging your bullion or like collecting coins yourself?

I have a pretty yuge ancient and world coin collection already so have just been getting scrap and bullion this year.

>While some almost perfect condition tetradrachms cost like 20€

Yep those are the fake ones that boomers buy. You can get the Akragas, Sicily crab didrachms for under 200 euros if you look around, even cheaper if you're lucky/lurk a while for a good auction deal.

>Any quick tips for someone who wants to get into some numismatic coins?

Sure, but can you narrow down your interest? What kind of coins? What countries?

Basically already done that with walker halves which was lots of fun. I have pretty vast collections already (a few thousand ancient Greek and Roman coins alone, hundreds of pounds of rare ancient artifacts etc.) so hopefully the kiddos inherit my love for the good old stuff because I've hoarded gobs of it.

Not an expert but the patina and surfaces are a bit suspicious, somewhat reminiscent of the plentiful Chinese fakes of various world Crown size coins. I don't know what is normal for the issue but the strange raised lines on the rim/edge on the reverse are suspicious too.

I'm definitely not FUDing collecting coins I love them, but unfortunately the Chinese have poisoned the well making it more dangerous now to collect pieces like this unless you know the series well. Been burned as a younger collector by Chinese fakes, it ain't fun so just make sure everything checks out and don't let an apparent good deal cloud your judgement.

provided its not cringe or colored I don't mind. I can see what you mean looking at more traditional designs compared with modern bullion.

>What was the average weekly wage in the Roman republic again?

Check here if you're interested in more details, but around a denarius a day (3.8-4.0g of 95+% silver during the time of Caesar)

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=Ancient%20Wages%20and%20Prices

Basically the same for trained Greek Hoplite soldiers several centuries earlier, a functionally pure silver Drachm coin of around 4.0-4.3 grams per day of work, maybe half that (a hemidrachm or 3 little silver obols) for unskilled labor.

The WWI era Italian silver is Peak Neoclassical, both beautiful as well as imbued with nationalistic pride in their history and people (note similarly with their ancient Roman coins) that germinated shortly thereafter. Fascist Italian silver is interesting but this series takes the cake desu.
