>I bought a weighted sterling silver salt shake. Bad idea. Less than a gram for $9.
>Ooof.

What brand? Even the shittiest little weighted Duchin Creations shakers I've scrapped yielded about 9 grams each. Be careful around that crap, but don't let it stop you from stacking cheapies.

>that means a wide scale confiscation.

Maybe from vaults, but they ain't going door to door tracking down the precious cargoes lost in countless tragic boating accidents. And even if they went as far as outlawing bullion, true collector coins (not modern bullion coins) and sterling silver antiques would still probably be safe, right?

>is there any trick to estimating how much sterling there is in weighted pieces? Or does that just come from experience?

Damn, almost a "how long is a piece of string" question. It's basically an experience-based skill, where you come to know what brands of weighted are best and worst (La Pierre weighted is good heavy gauge, Duchin Creations is aluminum foil tier shit for example) and record or remember the yields of similar or identical pieces (the weighted reinforced Empire model 232 salt and pepper shakers yield ~14g sterling per shaker for example).

You learn that weighted sugar/creamer sets should yield ~90g and up, weighted compotes (stemmed candy dishes) and the like are good, all sorts of stuff that I can't really convey adequately, ya just have to go get your hands dirty!

Labor day held up the mail so today I got to see what eBay scores the lazyass USPS had to bring me. After breaking down the weighted sugar/creamer and knives I got basically an even 1,100 grams of sterling, total cost $507, spot value currently $875, an amount of silver which would cost normies a solid grand retail. Not the best deals I've had but still sufficient margins for significantly below-spot refined and returned ingots. Scrapping is pretty based desu.
