They thought that Craig was wrong. They thought Craig was confusing integers for fixed point values and didn't know what the fuck he was talking about.

Of course, they didn't know that the values in original bitcoin clients (like bitcoind) are 64-bit integers, with a convention that "a bitcoin" means put the decimal point 8 places from the right.
