Here's my absolute beginner understanding of penny stocks.

They are memes, and it's because of how volatile they are. The market has essentially not figured out what the stock is worth; maybe the company is new or it has fucked up in the past or whatever, but the price is fluctuating up and down pretty regularly. Big trading firms don't really fuck with them because they are too risky with big money and don't make them enough profits with small money, so it is the realm of poorfags like us to trade them. The payoff with a couple hundred invested can be huge to traders like us if you can swing trade them, i.e. the price goes up and down by a few cents per share when it cost $0.05 to begin with and you are holding 1000 shares. You just unload before the market corrects your profits away, and you aren't slinging enough shares to really affect the price with your sales.

What I haven't figured out is where to find them and how to recognize the signs which is why I'm still poor.
