no anon, we're talking about living independently, on minimum wage, with no other help. I have no doubt there's a million minimum wagers moved out of mom and dads house, but they most assuredly are dependent on someone else, whether that be a roommate, significant other, the government, or the kindness of a landlord

Your situation is different because you had major expenses paid for. no utilities, no car, and you got a little bit of overtime. I'm not saying you didn't go to bed hungry, but I am saying your situation is the exception, rather than the rule. Nobody can live independently on $7.25 an hour, 40 hours a week, without external help. You were lucky to have had a roof over your head. You were lucky to have the luxury of your utilities paid for, you were lucky you lived close enough to work walk/bike, and you were lucky to get overtime

North/south carolina have been on my radar forever. You can rent for $500 a month in the suburbs. Even in the cities $800 for a studio. Houses are cheap too. 80k can get you a small 3- bedroom house.

the only problem is the wages are really low too. I want to save like 125k up here, buy a 3-bedroom house for 80k-90k, rent out the other two bedrooms, and have like 1k in bills a month. Even a minimum wage job can pay the bills.

50k and 45k people left. I was second in charge so I asked for 35k and health insurance. 30k and no health insurance was the most they would do. everybody quit within a week and now they pay people 20k a year. the manager makes 32k no health insurance
