Shows the bulk of returns come in the last and first 3 days of the month by graphing them vs returns of all other days, thought it was pretty clear.

Why does it matter to the rest of the world if the stock market falls? When economists talk about plummeting stock markets they talk as if it would have economic disasters, but the only actual consequence of it is that the stock owners lose money, right? I mean at least until the stock goes back up again. Why is it a global disaster if the stock market plummets?

On a basic level it's simple. Inflation happens when there is more money. The replies in this thread describes the process by which changes in the money supply affects prices.

Do you doubt me? Alright, consider this simple logic:

The average price of a good/service=p
amount of goods traded a year=y
amount of money units (eg. dollars) = m
amount of times a currency unit is traded a year (velocity of money)=V

p*y = m*V

You cannot deny that simple formula. So let's proceed. In order for p to change, one of the following three can happen: the amount of traded goods can decrease (lower y), the velocity of money can change (higher V) or the amount of money can change (higher m).

If the amount of goods decreases and the price per good consequently increases, well, that's not generally what people refer to when they say inflation. Ib order for the velocity of money to increase we would simply have to use up our paychecks faster. And while that is possible, it seems to me there's an upper limit to how fat the money can get.

So, in practice it seems inflation is really mainly caused by an increased money supply.

I'm at a career-crossroads and I'd really like some advice. I'm currently working in customer service for a large telecom company. If I keep doing this and collect experience from the industry maybe I could open up my own business down the line, Some kind of phone shop I think.
On the other hand I could get a job at the Tax Agency in my country, collect experience, get a job at as a consultant at some accounting firm and create some kind of career along those lines. I have an accounting degree and I have patience, so I could do it. The only problem is that if I have to live the rest of my life as a wageslave then I will be depressed, unfullfilled and might as well kill myself.
The idea of opening up a business down the line is the only thing that I actually value and care about. I have few friends and few interests besides business. It sort of feels like if I don't have some kind of business my life will just have no point.

Wat do, /biz/?

Am I correct that buying bull and bear certificates are basically just betting against the person selling the certificate? I mean, if I buy a bull certificate and the underlying asset is the S&P 500, is that essentially the same thing as me saying to a friend "Hey, I bet you x amount of dollars the S&P is gonna go up"?

Can someone explain this?

I was simply claiming that I don't have absolutely zero exposure to the topic in general, nothing more.
