You're not quite understanding. There's not gonna be any fertilizer to buy. Or food to buy (unless you live in the countryside, but no fuel to transport much of anything to cities). Or much of anything like medicine and whatnot. That's exactly the kind of massive failure they're engineering right now. Money doesn't even matter when there's nothing to buy. You're better off to have stocked up on a cellar full of deenz or booze or something. Even gold and silver aren't much use at that point if things get bad enough (but they'll be useful to store your wealth THROUGH the bad times and maybe get you out of a bad situation or two).
