Investing in a field you understand is definitely important
If you don't know the details of the industry you're investing in, then you can't really know what makes that company a good buy, or when you should buy in/sell out
I have money in small biotech stocks because I'm majoring in a biological field and have at least some vague understanding of what makes a biotech stock a good buy
