I think browsing 4chan is good for you. Because of the nature of everybody being forced to mingle within the generally same boundaries you are opened up to many posts that are less than perfect. I think it grounds you and humanizes you in a way, you are not spending all day reading comments from scientists that are perfectly sourced with 1000 updoots, you are interacting with normal people. I think that's a good thing because it means you can be competitive, when you're in a thread chatting with whoever happens to stop by its not very likely a 200iq person with perfect knowledge on the subject is going to drop into your thread, so it's actually feasible you could be the most knowledgeable person on a given subject in that given thread on 4chan. This pushes you to get better, even if the goalposts keep moving the fact that you can believe you might be the best and most knowledgeable person about something on 4chan is a good motivation for you to reach that goal, it seems actually achievable. Once you've taken that first step the next one is much easier.
