You can be as great and competent in programming or art or whatever, if you can't scale a project you can't finish it. And if you can't finish it you can't close the deal.

You got a 30 page design doc? You can probably cut that down to 10. Don't like it? Tough shit. You're gonna do it sooner or later so safe yourself the trouble.

Yeah no fucking shit bucko. Here is another shocker: Your realized original vision is probably shit.

Low scale designs with lots of iterations are 99% of the time far superior to large scale "originuhl" designs.

Some people can technically scale a project but still can't finish it because they lose themselves in pointless details that most players dont even notice.
Some people have an actual problem with finishing projects in the very sense of the word. It is a form of programmer's stage fright.

Also, and I wrote that in that former thread already:
Repeatability.
If you can't scale a project and you can't finish it, you sure as hell can't serialize/repeat it.
Repetition and repurposing existing assets (that especially includes code) is absolutely vital. It's vital because you want to build a sustainable business and therefore you must learn to get the most mileage out of ALL your work.

This is also true for consolidation phases within individual projects (when you cut those 20 pages of design you better repurpose some of that work in a slicker, better design - same when you cut levels)

These are pretty subtle problems, but I shit you not they are the primary reasons why 99% of indie projects fail. Even projects that have an active following get mogged by this stuff.
