Whole foods is a relatively new supermarket chain business model centering on selling snake oil style fad diets with no rational basis to hippies, providing the essential economic function of commodifying "environmentalism" and defrauding stupid people thereby causing capital to gravitate towards good wholesome intelligent folks who will allocate it more effectively. Visually the growth pattern resembles a sigma curve which is expected for a new business that is expanding into a market. Less clearly it appears the rate of growth has been slightly slower than the past few years and it may be entering the 2nd half of the sigma curve growth pattern, though this may be due to certain expenses incurred in Q3 2013.

Net income has steadily increased by around $100 million annually, revenue by $1 billion to $1.5 billion, operating income by $150 million to $200 million. Growth as a proportion of revenue is far lower than growth as a proportion of net income, I believe this is due to the slower rate of increase of "direct store expenses" which has only increased 50% since 2009, this is what you would expect from a business that is building new stores.
