p2pool submits the mined blocks to monerod, monerod broadcasts block if it checks out, other monero nodes receive block, broadcast if it checks out until every node knows the new chainheight.

if everyone mined to p2pool, it would be impossible to have rouge pool admins 51% attack the network, that's basically it.
