If you just hold btc and buy with fiat, no need to. If you are trading alts, you MUST measure in btc. This is because alts are measured in btc, the alt-btc pairs are a bitcoin ratio. If you look strictly at alt-usd, you will get noise from alt-btc and btc-usd. Imagine if you bought any alt in May, sure you’d be up in USD, but you are actually down 50%+ in btc value. In other words, if you just held btc you would of had much more USD. It’s important to know when to buy alts, it’s all about the btc ratio.

Example: eth at 0.015 ratio is a steal, putting usd into eth at that ratio will guarantee you more btc in the long run than simply buying btc instead. But you need to remember to sell your eth when it’s btc ratio is valued higher
