They have been brainwashed from birth to always believe their natural human pattern recognition is wrong. Whenever they subconciously come to the most obvious and logical answer, their internal programming reverses what would be the conclusion, and it is instead treated as the objectively incorrect conclusion. They "know" that's the wrong answer, but don't know the right one, and can't natutally reach it because to them common sense has become a debunking tool. That's why they get so frustrated when debating. Can't ask a man to hammer a nail when he refuses to use his hammer or use anything else in a hammer-like fashion while claiming with religious certainty that hammering the nail would never work.
