Nice pickups.

Chris Duane (of Silvershield) amuses me, he is probably the most zealous silversperg I've ever come across. He is way too high off his own product and seems to enjoy entertaining grandiose delusions about "silvershield becoming the money of conscious kings and queens" a bit much, but my own instincts and beliefs regarding silver overall are parallel and almost as crazy, so I like to listen and dream with him (Bix Weir too for that matter) even though I don't make trades based on their "colorful" input.

>I buy and sell vintage items. Am constantly running into people who have fallen for the 'collectible' meme.
>Sometimes marketers create collectible genres from scratch (Franklin Mint, Avon/Hallmark) or they milk already existing genres until they are dead (Topps.)
>Numismatics unfortunately are often subject to both types of attack.

Absolutely! And thanks for sharing, hopefully it will help guide the little dragons here in the right direction.

You summed it up well, if something is being presented as a "collectible" it was probably mass-produced and packaged specifically to be kept pristine, thus negating any value that might otherwise accrue if it were instead an honest item only collected or saved as an afterthought and which is actually rare now due to attrition and loss over the years.

Zoomies please don't fall for the "collectible" meme.
