I will say though, if you just want something to do? Be a relatively well-put-together-looking person (white sure helps), buy 50 business cards, a pair of painting pants, and go to the grocery store. Or go for a walk. Or go pick up some food. Just living in my neighborhood wearing work clothes got me propositioned SO many times. Maybe that's how hot girls feel? But I would just be going about my business in painting pants and people would come up to me and ask, "Are you a painter? My sister is selling her house" "We got this coach-house apartment we're fixing up" "How much do you make where you work? I run a business, I need good people, and I'm betting I can beat that". Especially during the spring and summer months there would be this frenzy where everyone has something that needs doing and is looking for someone who can help. One thing about that kind of business is that, I do believe, there is ALWAYS more work that needs doing than people available to do it. I never really applied myself, and by the time I got the sense for how TO apply myself in an effective way, I had gotten sick of "working hard" in that way and wanted a steady paycheck and clean clothes.

Last thing is that it's literally a business of aesthetics, so appearance matters more than with most trades. Especially if you're doing high-margin home-decorating work (which is the opposite end of things from the high-churn property-management type work) people want someone they like doing business with and who looks like a professional, someone they don't mind inviting into their million-dollar home. Some people choose to push back on this but I do believe painters need to wear painting pants. Wear professional boots or work-shoes. Don't be the fat fuck in the gray caulk-splotched sweatpants and sneakers. Spotless blistering-white pants says "I work in an office", but it also means that, if you're a sloppy fuck "because it's a dirty job so who cares", the evidence is all over you.

This is the reverse, they will meet the people of his life and realize that they got the worst one in this entire social web. On the plus side, OP does sound fairly well socially-integrated, with a good relationship with his family. When he finds a girl who views herself as of-his-caliber and they begin a love-connection, these will be strong points in favor of his character.

If you bring home a girl who is above you in SMV though she'll be frustrated to meet the people you've described and possibly make untoward advances on them during the period in which she's lost respect for you but has not yet formally ended the relationship. Beware the perils of snagging a girl who's out of your league.
