Actually the opposite: most systems operate basically like pyramid schemes (you need an increasing productive population base to support the retirement and benefits of the previous generation), but not only are boomers the most numerous population (obviously), productive people are having fewer children than ever, later in life than ever. It's not that disastrous but it's far worse than it was in the 80's in japan (next post) because, by a mix of population dynamics and policy, the productivity of the workers is being sapped to provide for the elders.
