When I was a child we would go try and catch butterflies in the spring when they first came out. I would catch them and look at their design for a few minutes, then release them. That provided me joy. Many kids would catch them and then kill them in different ways for entertainment. I asked one of these kids why he would smash the butterflies since they weren't harmful at all and he just said "It's fun."
Most people are living lives that they wish were different. They resent some parts of their lives and want to spread negativity because they think that will make them feel better. It feels "fun" to them to do this, because their subconscious is rewarding them for doing the only thing they can do to rationalize their own failure. Chainlink will be fine, but humanity will fail because of this.
