investing is about making risk-controlled, safe decisions. not necessarily intelligent

trading is about making risk-controlled, hopefully profitable decisions. Again, 'intelligence' is sort of a null value.

In either case, in all cases, what is absolutely critical is to recognize 'unintelligent', dumb decisions and don't do those things! avoid mistakes is much more important than making brilliant moves. because there aren't really very many brilliant moves.
What you have to try for is a bunch of well-reasoned and successful positions, and continue to control your own misbehavior.
