From what I've seen in the job search, trades are 50/50. Bigger organizations that pay you a decent wage do background checks, but smaller firms and some staffing companies don't seem to. My plan is to wait it out for the next six years or so, try to get an associates in welding and work for a while, find a felon friendly welding co., then move to a state like Colorado or Texas who prevent employers from background checking after 7 years if the potential hire will make < $75,000 a year. I don't think the reality of this has set in for my parents yet. I'm grateful, don't get me wrong, but every few weeks or so I get a little chit chat about "we want to see you get somewhere in life son". Yeah, tell me about it. I won't be able to get anywhere until I'm 30 senpai, my life is on hold, more or less.
