I work in creative fields as a group dynamics analyst. Affirm that you've looked into using "positive language" when talking about people's idea's. Being able to discuss the idea even if bad helps people cooperate towards a better idea.

Imagine you're talking about a new product your company is producing. It's a bad product and you call it retarded. Before you can explain why you are removed from your conference position. The company moves forward and now they are losing money on the product. Your job is at risk so you go up to the boss and say, "I told you so faggot!" Now you don't have a job at all because you didn't know how to use positive language.

I think one of the most important things I've learned in adulthood is that the mediocre gather around the mediocre. This is how people who run the gamut from Anthony Fantano to Joe Rogan to Gavin McGinnes to Stefan Molyneux get popular: total hacks with entirely conventional thinking who the rabble flocks around, because mediocre feels comfortable with mediocre.

And it's another reason why populism doesn't work; the mediocre gather around the mediocre, not the great.
