In Rev a silver coin, the denarius, representing a day's wage was worth the equivalent of a loaf of bread. I crunched the numbers. A measure of wheat then would make about one loaf of their bread, or a little more than a loaf of bread we generally have today. Oddly enough, the Mercury dime is about the same proportion of silver to wheat in a modern loaf of bread.
