There's 3 archetypes:
1. Builder. You build it, and network with people (middlemen) who will connect you with investors.
2. Middleman. Help a startup get in touch with investors.
3. Investor. Invest in startups for a return on your money.
Choose a role that suits you. As a builder, you can probably scrape enough capital to get the equipment you need to start. Figure out what the market wants, where it's been, and you might be able to wager a guess on where it's headed. Do you want to produce goods or provide a service. What is your skillset? What classes are you willing to take or videos on youtube do you need to watch to get started or improve?
