I mean, since universal basic income and infinite money printing for stimulus spending seems like it's here to stay, how about we transition to a system that has TWO types of currency?

Currency 1 would be the current fiat currency used for most everyday consumer transaction. Funny money based on trust that you can buy groceries with. Is there a crisis? People are starving? Fire up the money printers and watch them go brrrr.

Currency 2 would be the real medium of value. People's networth and important assets get appraised in terms of this currency. This one can't be printed after the first run, only acquired via trade. Its relative value is eternally stable as long as the nation doesn't collapse. It is basically gold, except without the difficulty of transportation and use. It's a digital currency stored and traded on a nationally shared database everyone has access to, and its protection from fraud/inflation is secured by the Constitution. Most plebs would have 0 or a very trivial amount of it.

I think this would be a decent compromise between the need for money to represent stable value and the need for money to be a policy tool stimulating growth/spending.
