Pretty much all secret societies are connected in one way or the other, these babylonian sun 'worshipers' were first to form, concentrate, and export their power and they've basically never left. Secret societies will always be able to overtake an uninitiated society because without anyone overtly opposing them they meet no resistance and can eventually completely infiltrate the power structure without anyone even realizing they were there.
