the best regions to look for gold are where many different geologic processes have occurred in the past. Areas where metamorphism, mountain building and volcanism are places gold can be allowed to appear. Gold is most commonly found in quartz veins, in their own many different forms. This diagram can help explain better than i can in simple text.

>step one smash two neutron stars together, the insane forces create vast amounts of super heavy elements like gold
>step two, as a planet forms and starts to cool, the material bombarding its surface stays close to the surface instead of sinking to its core due to the molten layers becoming more plastic
>three, plate tectonics and all manner of other forces cause fluids to work their way down deep into the crust, picking up minerals and metals as it goes, creating a brine. This brine is under insane pressure
>four a mountain grows, and the gold in the brine is shot up into faults and cracks generating ore bodies, sometimes taking eons other times taking moments to cool
>five, erosion forces gold particles down into stream beds, where a friendly prospector picks the nuggets from the bedrock where they settled.
