I make 50k before taxes and still live with my mom nearing the age of 30. My state taxes me out the ass and I make 38k after taxes. Rent in my area is 2,000 for a run down single bedroom apartment. Managed to save and invest up to 70k for a down payment but now the houses in my area that were 500k before covid are 1 million+ and I've basically given up. My real life was supposed to start years ago. Part of me wants to just pack it up and try to rough it in another state but I'm already miserable and lonely and don't think I could handle the isolation. My Dad left with a big inheritance from his parents when I was a teenager and started a new family on the other side of the country, I still talk to him maybe once or twice a year and when I tell him about my situation he basically says tough luck kiddo, and goes on a typical boomer rant about how much easier kids have it now and that I should just move to the ghetto, meanwhile he was able to buy a 3 bedroom house in a white suburb and support 3 kids with no college education at the age of 30. I'm so tired.
