Had my 3rd test for a manual car. Came in nervous today, but my driving is miles better than before.

My test examiner comes out, and it's a 35ish year old woman who failed me a couple of years back. I remember she was pretty strict and just had a negative vibe around her while I was driving.

As soon as I saw her, at the back of my head I thought "oh fuck", but I soldiered on. I tried playing it confident and tried making it look like I knew what I was doing. So I lift the bonnet and show her the brake fluid etc. Then start driving.

My driving was good. But the thing that made the biggest difference this time round was I tried to charm her. I asked her about her a load of questions:

-How was your day?
-How many tests you have today?
-You live far from work?
-Told her where I work, and told her to come by some time
-Asked her if she had children, then asked her if they're "good" (this one she paused at as she was surprised)
-Asked her about her new home and the area, told her where I lived
-Asked if she enjoys driving/cars

So I have the interview, it was a face to face with a woman asking me questions. E.g. Why do you want to work here? What would you recommend to the CEO to improve customer experience?

I answer the questions in a confident, organised way. Then they pull me after the interview and tell me they rejected me because I was "robotic" and "told them what they wanted to hear".

I was pissed. So maybe they thought I chose my words carefully to push some buttons? Why do I get penalised for sounding competent and knowing what other people want, and acting in a way to satisfying that need?
