A 20 TB hard drive costs 350$ SATA or 450$ SAS, while the equivalent on SSD would probably cost 2000 to 3000$. But that's just a minuscule, insignificant portion of the platinum market. So why cares?

It's a versatile metal used in a variety of fields, with the biggest one by far being automotive (catalytic converters now and likely hydrogen fuel cells in the future).

What people miss about platinum is that it's mainly an industrial metal with a very small investment market share. And with very limited stocks, its price is driven by supply and demand, so it's extremely volatile.

While gold hold and "increase" value during period of crisis, platinum does the opposite. People like to stack gold to protect their saving against inflation and the banks. Adding a bit of platinum is a fun way to add diversity into their stack, just remember how different is from gold and don't use it as a way to save money, but to bet money.

Actually it is thought that platinum is slightly more common than gold, like there's ~15-20% more platinum on the Earth crust than gold. However less than half of it can be mined, and is much harder than gold to mine and refine, making it rarer than gold (just not 30x).

Platinum prices can skyrocket, just like rhodium and palladium, especially during periods of economic growth. It's a bet, while gold is a safety net. They work very differently but I like having a small bit of pt in my stack.

I have the platinum noble! Forgot they used other metals too, so I got a bit confused at first kek

Love that picture, beautiful display of variety in European circulated gold. Gotta take a similar shot sooner or later.

However note that Guldens, Marks or older Koronas were not part of LMU. Gold content was all over the place.

I'd suggest to follow >>58465990 advice. Build some security first, then add a small amount of spice in the form of platinum. It's more volatile and its price is almost entirely driven by its industrial uses, having nothing to do with our idea of coinage. Tbh I don't think it can fall much lower than how currently is, so it's a bet but not a particularly risky one.

Palladium however is 100% industrial and is harder to sell than platinum, at least in most countries I suppose. This is why I'll probably only ever get a single ounce of palladium for the sake of having it, but I'd love to get it as a coin and those are very rare here.
