When government jobs pay double than a lot of work, then it won't be a job of last resort. Instead, lots of low income people will swarm to it. When the nation's largest employer is the government, the economy is fucked. This is a symptom of a lot of economically failed totalitarian states in history.

It will be an endless downward spiral of a nation kicking a can down the road by creating jobs out of thin, hot air through taxes and printing money. In addition, totalitarian states love being a large employer as being the people's means of not starving = total control of the population.
