Cyanide leaching, whether its done via batch or pile spraying, or froth floating is the first step after crude crushing of the ore. Its also the easiest as it gets rid of most of the waste and tailings. But now, you have to chase ever smaller bits of shit ruining your purity, and this gets expensive. You can go with Wholwill (but you need 96% pure gold) where you make gold chloride solutions and use electrolysis to plate impure gold with a the 99.99% pure metal. Or you can go with the Miller process where you melt the impure gold and hit it with chlorine gas to make the impurities oxidize and come off as slag. This gets you to 99.5%, so you'll need additional passes.

Refining is about chasing 9s, and each 9 past the decimal is more expensive than the last.
